LRB 5 Goblins for a TR 110 tournament

Post by kadu-c »

Hello,

I will attend a TV 1.100.000 tournament with Goblins ! :)
I've never tried LRB 5 Goblins before, I just played few games with LRB 4.

I think that I will take this roster:
-2 Trolls: 220k
-1 Bombardier: 40k
-1 Chainsaw: 40k
-1 Pogo: 40 k
-1 Fanatic: 70k
-10 Goblins: 400k (so 16 players)
-4 RR: 240k
-3 cheerleaders: 20k
-2 assistants: 20k

What do you think about that ? Should I drop a Goblin and cheerleaders/assistants to get a 5th RR ?

And now the skills. It will be one normal roll before game 1 and after games 1 and 3, and a double roll after games 2 and 4 (it's a 5 games tournament).
I plan to take: Dodge on the Chainsaw, Multiple Block on a Troll, Hail Mary Pass on the Bombardier, Diving Tackle on the Pogo and Nerves of Steel on the 2nd Troll.

Thanks for your advice ! :)

Are any stars being allowed? If so ripper would be a nice addition.
bloodweiser babes will go a long way to keeping your gobo's on the pitch as well.

No, inducements are not allowed. :)

It's not that far fetched.. there are many possible tournament formats availiable in LRB 5.0. My own group may experiment with allowing babes, wandering apoth's, wizards, halfling chef and bribes... probably no stars though :)

I like your skill choices. Why Diving Tackle on the Pogo is my only wonder.

Father .... Chaos Cup is TV100 and all inducements are allowed to be purchased other than Mercs.

he he it's part of my cunning plan !
Basically here is the idea. Pogo can go farther than a normal Goblin (plus the possibility to leap over the defense) and so can be used to put pressure on the ball carrier if the coach let him alone in his half.
So if I manage to place him near the ball carrier, my opponent has 2 choices: try to dodge with a -2 modifier (and if he fails my Pogo has a good movement to stand up, pick up the ball and score) or use his Blitz action on my Pogo (and so won't use his Blitz to open a gap into my defensive line).
Furthermore I like the Diving Tackle/Dirty Player combo. If my opponent fails his dodge, he's exposed to a foul. It will be probably less efficient with the new Dirty Player rule though.

However instead of Diving Tackle I also hesitate with Sneaky Git. The problem is that I don't know if it's worth taking this skill on a Pogo.

I think the problem you'll have is running out of players. Only 12 non-SWs means once a few regular gobbos are off the pitch you will have to field the SW - meaning even fewer for the next drive. I'd be tempted to drop a SW in favour of another regular goblin. Probably the fanatic.

I'd not bother with skills on any of the other SWs either. They only get one drive, so you lose the skill as soon as they are sent off.

Trolls are normally on the pitch the whole time - Piling On might be fun for both trolls, if not Guard, Break Tackle, & Juggernaut are all useful options. If you are determined to chuck gobbos maybe Strong Arm. Alternatively save up your doubles for Block (reliable hitting) or Pro (reliability all round).

Other than that I'd be tempted to load up with sneaky git and foul every turn... (maybe give the pogo SG) and use the doubles for dirty players :D

I agree with many of your points Ian.

Concerning the SW, I'm afraid too that I'll be outnumbered very quickly. :-?
The Fanatic is too "random" to be really useful but I want to give him a try because he looks more reliable than in LRB 4 (has a tackle zone now, no need to move him first and no roll after his action).

I agree concerning skills on SW. I'll probably drop Dodge on the Chainsaw (as he will die in a horrible way anyway... ) but I prefer keeping HMP on the Bombardier: it can be really useful in defense versus slow teams that take 8 turns to score (aiming the center of their cage each turn ! :P ).

I played few games with Goblins under LRB 4 and I understood that Trolls are the key points. It's really hard to choose a skill (normal or double) for them as there are too many good options ! :-?
I prefer Nerves of Steel rather than Strong Arm concerning TTM because one of the common defense versus TTM is to stick lot of defenders near the Troll to cause a fumble. So Strong Arm won't save me in this case. However I think that I'll take Break Tackle for my Troll-Thrower ( :o ) as it's more versatile.
And I'll finally take Piling On on the 2nd Troll !

Concerning multiple Sneaky Git and DP, I'm afraid that it won't be as useful as it used to be. :) And I'll have even more quickly problems for setting up a decent team on each kick-off.

So finally I think that I will take these skills: Break Tackle on a Troll, Piling On on the 2nd Troll, Hail Mary Pass on the Bombardier, Diving Tackle on the Pogo (I really want to try that ! ) and Block (Guard ?) on a Goblin.

From making the error of fielding 4 SWs in a 1100K roster I do think you got at least one too many. I'd personally drop the Bomber myself (who's not so hot without HMP), then use the doubles to give Block to a Troll (or Strip Ball to a Goblin/Pogoer, depending how much Sure Hands will be around.)

It's a real shame the tournament doesn't allow Inducements though as those are ace for making stunty teams a bit more competitive. Personally I wouldn't take Goblins/'Flings to a tournament without access to at least Bribes and my prefered TV110 roster features Ripper for extra LoS crunchyness (+Grab is great for dumping players next to the Chainsaw.)
