Gutter-Runner & Linerat 4th Skill

Post by Robotorz »

My beloved Line-Rat has gotten his 4th skill and I am unsure wich to pick.

He has:
+ Block
+ Big Hands
+ Sure Hands
+ Kick Off Return (unhappy with it)

and now I rolled 1/1
My Idea: Dodge -> he is my main ball retriver / collector / pocketcarrier
Makes him more durable and lets him pick up the ball in loads of tacklezones more often.

and my crazy GR got his 5th skill (I use him on defence mostly)
+ Block
+ Shadowing
+ Tackle
+ MV

rolled a 5/5 with him
I dont have a clue... I was planning on getting him side-step but now? dont know... so either Prehensile Tail, another +mv or sidestep

The team has 6 RR, FF of 14

Teammembers (excluding the above):
Rat-Ogre: Block, +ST, Tentacles
SV1: Tackle, Stripball, Guard
SV2: +ST, Frenzy, Juggernaut
All Linerats have: Block (+at least 1 skill (kick, wrestle, ...)
GR2: Catch, Extra Arm, Block, Side Step
GR2: Catch, Sprint, Sure Feet, AG+, Leap
GR3: Block, Shadowing, Passblock, Long Legs, Catch
Thrower1: Accurate, Nerves of Steel, Block, Dump Off
Trhower 2: Accurate

Teams I play against:
2 Wood Elfe Teams
2 Pro-Elves
1 Hight Elves
1 Dwarf
2 Fling
1 Skaven
1 Chaosdwarf
1 Chaos
1 Human
1 ogre

So as you see mostly "agility" teams and some bashy.
Leage is 4 years old and teams are quite "old" and developed. (lucky for me I had only 1 death - the 2nd thrower, loads of doubles on skill rolls, and just 1 Niggeling injury on a retired linerat).

Edit nr2:
Today Chaos-Cup Final (me vs. Pro-Elves)

He's already got 4 skills, according to this list - do you mean he's got his 5th? That's a lot more skills than my linerats ever get!

Yeah this sure sounds like one crazy team to me. Personally I'd take movement on the gutter. Can't really see how passing/strengh skills would benefit him. 11 MV is just awesome as a sweeper, plus you get that annoying one turn TD machine option...

For the lino. Is it his fourth or fifth skill?

Will this league last for a while? If yes, I'd consider the +AV, keep him alive.

Otherwise I'd probably go with the +MA. Side Step is always good with shadowing.

Although it doesn't perfectly fit the profile of any of your GRs, Dauntless could be good on one of your GRs.

Yeah I ment 5th skill sorry. That linerat has ~ 1/3 of all my MVPs, 1 Chaosmutation from 2003 Chaos-Cup and around 1/4 of all my casualies.

as I won the chaos-cup I have 2 mutations to choose.

Rat-Ogre (Block, +ST, + Tentacles) gets one

and a Linerat (Block, Tackle) gets also a mutation

But the worst Team in our league is by far the Chaos Team.
(2 AG 4 Chaoswarriors, ST 5 Chaoswarrior, ST 5 Beastman, 2 ST4 beastmen, 2 AG 4 beastmen and a Ag3 Blodge Ogre). Never beat himin the last 2 years )o:[/code]

I'd be tempted to give the Rat Ogre regeneration. His Av8 is a little low and he's already real quality.

The line rat I'd probably give Horns too for the S4 blitzer with Block & tackle.

The initial line rat I'd be tempted to take Nerves of Steel when he picks up the ball in traffic so he can pass out to a handy GR. Dodge is good though.

The Gutter Runner - MA11 is really tempting. Av8 is also tempting. Sidestep would nicely compliment the shadowing/tackle as would prehensile tail. I don't think you'll regret any of them.

Thank you all for helping me out ... was (by the way) quite odd not deciding wich skill I am going to pick but still having to field the team... always thinking: "what if the unpicked skill would win this match?" (we houseruled that players have up to a week to decide a skill - but once choosen its final)

The score was 9 vs 8 - won on the first turn in overtime, wich 6 (2 niggeling inj.) cas recived and 2 (1 death)dealed.

FF: 13 (went down)
RR: 7 (dont know where to spend my money...)

Rat-Ogre: Block, +ST, Tentacles, Regenaration
SV1: Tackle, Stripball, Guard
SV2: +ST, Frenzy, Juggernaut
GR2: Catch, Extra Arm, Block, Side Step
GR2: Catch, Sprint, Sure Feet, +AG, Leap
GR3: Block, Shadowing, Passblock, Long Legs, Catch +niggeling
Gr4: Block, Shadowing, Tackle, +MV, Side Step
Thrower1: Accurate, Nerves of Steel, Block, Dump Off+niggeling
Trhower 2: Accurate, Block
Linerat1: Block, Tackle, Horns
LR2: Block, Wrestle
Lr:3 Block, Tackle,
Lr4: Block, Kick, Tackle
LR5: Block, Big Hands, Sure Hands, Kick Off Return, Dodge
LR6: Block, Fend
LR7:Block, Tackle, Fend

But I guess its time to retire that team - I need so long to plan my moves (browsing through my team-sheet to search who has what, at least every turn twice) and we just got a bunch of new players to our league. *sigh* Sorry for the rant ;-)

before you take that step (retirement) what is the TV/TR of this team?

this is the kind of opposition personally I would love to come up against with my Dwarves TV 2.4m so you shouldn't deprive gamers of the chance to take out the "Champ" otherwise you are running out at the top like Lennox Lewis did.

even if you play less with this team, let players take a pot shot at them if they want.

With 5 Assist. Coaches and 5 cheerleaders has a value of 284.

Out of those 284 TR 104 TR is only from skills.

And I still have 400k Gold banked (we have no spiraling expenses until end of jannuary - where we will mostly start all over).

/rant on
Sadly my pbem / javabowl skills arent as great as my "rl-skillz". Usualy I trash-talk and rant on and on and on (wich is my nature sadly) and wich confuses other coaches and seems even to improve my dice-rolls. So I would be a bad opponent (o:

BTW, you couldn't have give MV11 to your GR...
No characteristic may ever be increased by more than 2 points over its starting value or to a value greater than 10.

@ clouds - "or to a value greater than 10" is a LRB5 rule, and it sounds like this league is/was using LRB4 (or earlier) rules.

Makes sense that he was using LRB 4.0, with the number of games played by his team... Should have thought of that... :)
