I'm sorry, but neither my personal experience nor the tournament statistics will confirm this. Actually, those teams who "rule" tourneys are:mattgslater wrote:Pro Elves rule, especially in tournaments.
Dodge on both Blitzers simply shuts down the corners on D. They're incredible. After that, I'm big on a Block Catcher and a Guard Lino. Those Catchers are really at their best in a league, where you can develop them willy-nilly, but in a tournament, the superior Blitzers more than match up.
Dwarfs, Undead, Orcs, Skaven and Wood Elves
As you can see in this topic, we know of only 1 tournament which Pro Elves ever won.
Pro Elves are good in league play, because their Blitzers and especially their Catchers have great potential. But you can't win tourneys with potential, you're just lacking essential skills. Wood Elves and Skaven win tourneys because their Catchers/Runners start with Dodge, they're only 1 skill away from Blodge. Pro Elves don't have this possibility.

It is shocking how poorly elves have done in tourneys with only 1 win with HE, 1 win with PE, and 9 wins with DE. Only the woodies have done really well.Meradanis wrote:I'm sorry, but neither my personal experience nor the tournament statistics will confirm this. It's because they're just too expensive for a tourney. For 1.000.000 GS, most of the Elf teams get 2 Rerolls and only half or their positionals. And then you'll have to play against teams with 12 or 13 players, more Rerolls, more Strength, and even more Skills. You may be faster and more agile, but it's the numbers and the skills that will decide the game.
Since Wood Elves start with more of those essential skills (Block and Dodge) than any other Elf team, they're actually a good tourney team.
Dark Elves are a solid choice, too. But only for a 1.100.000 GP tournament.

Yep, these are the "tweaked" teams, the teams with liberal amounts of block, Dodge, high MA, high STR, Sure Hands, and AG 4.Meradanis wrote: I'm sorry, but neither my personal experience nor the tournament statistics will confirm this. Actually, those teams who "rule" tourneys are:

The only team that I'm surprised doesn't win more tournies is humans... they have a lot going for them too, but maybe the catcher positional is just too weak (for tournies) to really be relied on (the catcher is the speed, dodge, and ag access for the squad, all in a Str 2, AG 3 package.)
It's why Dark Elves outperform Pro and High Elves, up to 6 positionals with block or dodge as starting pieces... that's actually much better than a ton of Nerves of Steel or Side Step.
That's also why I have a poor record with Lizzies in tournies
