Ogre on norse team?

Post by Pangan »

I will enter a league with a norse team, and I was wondering how to put up my roster. After i hacked the commisioners dark elves to pieces in a training game he decided to enter an orc team featuring a troll. Other teams are chaos dwarwes and undead.. and prolly a skaven team. So its not gonna be a league with a lot of finesse i reckon

Ok.. so to be able to take some damage and give some back i was wondering if i should hire an ogre for my team or not. The lineup will be something like:

3 blitzers
1 ogre
2 catchers
1 thrower
and rest linemen

.. or go with 4 blitzers and 3 rerolls?

all replies are appreciated

Drop the ogre to start and go with an apothecary and three re-rolls, you'll need that apoth with armour value 7, to keep a full squad on the pitch in the early games, use block to your advantage, but dont be too agressive with the follow ups. First purchases should be to reinforce your line -up with any replacements and the extra blitzer, then maybe stick an ogre in, I use a dark age Ice Elemental for the Ogre, fits in great with the team

i don't know, it is so tempting to field a big guy as a starting player. better chance of building him up with Spp's.

then pray for luck and not to get too many casualties in your first game and to win enough cash to buy an apo after that first match,

not very scientific but it is all a risk. :)

after all blood bowl is a risky game. i guess i am just a big guy fan

I agree with Nermal about getting him early. Once you get 3 CASs you get block and (without actually crunching any numbers) save his butt twice as often in a block outgoing or incoming. Otherwise you'll find yourself leaving him until the end all the time so you wont stuff up and fall over leaving your team vulnerable. So if you are going to get one get him soon.

However, do not just plonk him down on the line to bash things. You are facing alot of strength and will lose in a battle of attrition. A stand-up-knock-down fight will see you consigned to the injury box. In my current league the norse player tries this and my chaos plus the one undead and two orc teams all kick his butt.

You have to set him each drive on one side or the other and use him as a hole opener. Bust a small hole and feed your team through. Use a speedy running play against the slower teams. On defence set him up 1-2 squares back from the LoS and use him to react to the cage that gets punched through your line.

Otherwise, he'll get beaten by the stronger opponent line or left next to a random lineman all game to biff on. May get him some spps but will not benefit your team within the game and help them to score and win.

You don't need an Ogre on a starting Norse team. If anything he is a bit of a liability. Take an Apoth, or maybe extra linemen becuase you'll need 'em! ;) Norse are an excellent team early on and can deal out lots of punishment, an Ogre is just gravy really.

the apoth. is a must for a starting norse team, the low AV 7 will hurt you much in the beginning. If you take a big guy at the start then I would take a mino.
A mino needs SPP to get skills like block and pro cause he is a risky big guy.
You can take the ogre later on, because you can controll him much better, you don't need to make blocks with him that are dangerous for you.

Start with the Ogre!

He will put some fear in the opponent, which you can use to your advantage!

He is quite expensive so it will take some time before you can buy him otherwise.

Also, this way he can start gaining experience immediately.

Re-Rolls are often fun for as long as they last and then it's over. You should have at least two to start with though (the two you really need)
