Agree with that. dodge, or no dodge they can't score without the ball. 1 half you recieve, score on turn 8. 1-0 to you, no equaliser before the break. the other half they score quickly, you grind down the field for 1-1. giving you a net 2-1 win. kicking first means they get less chance to regain KO'd players, but recieving first puts you in control to dictate the pace.

Agree with all the above. Put Kick on one Lineorc so you control the pace of the game right from the kickoff. Give Tackle to the second one and punish the skinks and gobbos.

No more help on this topic please - Iceman is joint top of the league for cas caused after 8 (7?) games. Ok, his win/loss record isn't great (though better than my goblins!
), but I don't want to face the orcs thanks!

Thank you all for you help on this so far, I have been progressing nicely in the league with regards to skilling of players but results have been poor (I’m thinking of giving Mourinho a call to help with the management side of things before the FA snap him up).
I have played another 4 games since my last post and my record stands at 1-3-4.
I beat lizardmen 2-1(I played the first half with 12 players on the pitch much to my embarrassment
), drew with khemri 0-0 (managed to do 6 casualties which was more than my previous 4 games combined!) lost to lizardmen 2-1 (I felt bad for using 12 players in our previous game so let him win) and drew with Nurgle 0-0.
I have a thrower with strong arm. 3 black orcs with block, 3 blitzers with mighty blow (2 of which also have frenzy) and 2 linemen with block.
Since sacking the Goblins I found myself in a position with only 40k and 11 players for the second game against lizards so ended up buying one back as a cheap sub. (I splashed out on a 4th re-roll after my 5th game so funds were depleted).
3 games later I had earned a massive 180k so brought myself a troll for some Goblin tossing action. Not used him yet but I can see it ending up like my twin diving catch goblins and hail mary thrower at Spikey…not achieving a damn thing!
So without paying any attention to Darkson what so ever, what would you of done differently? And what should I do next? I have a linemen who is nearly ready for his first skill so I’m thinking kick…….
Cheers
Dave

Differently? Gone the standard orc route of 4 BOrcs, 4 Blitzers and bought up on the rerolls. The troll is a lot of fun but is never taken as a serious option apart from going the bash. The one-turn-desperation thing is all very well but it is just that. There's sooooo many ways it can screw up it's not funny. The Iceman wrote:So without paying any attention to Darkson what so ever, what would you of done differently? And what should I do next? Next? Definitely kick. Pin the opposition deep in their half and give yourself a chance of putting some pressure on their ball-carrier right from the start. Doubles roll has to be guard in most other teams, but you've already got 8 players with access to it.
My pennyworth.

You've been playing lizards, so hopefully you're learning the power of stunty. With their much shorter MA, goboos aren't the TD-scoring machines that skinks are, but becaue they're so cheap, you have an alternative use for them: assist-removers. This can be a game breaker.
Dodge your goboo around the back of a defensive line, in several opposition players' TZs. Now you can make 2die 1-on-1 blocks with your BOBs! Also works on LoS with xoxox setup.

What makes you think this lot pay any more attention to be than the ARBBL league does? The Iceman wrote:So without paying any attention to Darkson what so ever,

Just wait till I decide to play a "proper" team.

I would have skilled up my players slightly differently. The Iceman wrote: I have a thrower with strong arm. 3 black orcs with block, 3 blitzers with mighty blow (2 of which also have frenzy) and 2 linemen with block.
Passing plays with Orcs are a low percentage play. Double on a thrower for me is Dodge or Surefeet. Improve the tactic you should be doing most often.
BOBs are Block & Guard so no disagreements there.
Linemen with Block. Fine.
3 Blitzers with Mighty Blow is overkill IMO. I'd have more variety:
Tackle, Mighty Blow, Piling On (Jump Up on doubles)
Guard, Stand Firm, (Dodge or Side Step on doubles)
Frenzy, Stand Firm, Juggernaut
Wrestle, Tackle, Strip Ball (not convinced yet about this one)
Not saying these are huge differences but...

Landrover, I have to agree, if I was starting again I’d definitely go with a team backbone of 4 BO and 4 Blitzers. The troll and goblin combo may be desperate but gives me the opportunity for a one turn score, which I don’t think is possible with orcs any other way? I will give kick to my next lineman as advised.
Tenwit I will try and resist the urge to toss my goblin and use him as a block assister/assist remover as you mention.
Pubbowler I think you are probably right with regard to going OTT on the mighty blow, but I am a simple minded fellow and thought it would be easier to remember if they all had the same skills. My third one is almost due his second skill so I will give him tackle or jump up as suggested.
Darkson I haven’t played your Goblins yet so lets see if I can actually beat them before you start upgrading to “proper” teams, remember I am the only person to lose to Sean and you beat him with the goblins!
Cheers

Well I played my next game….
… and I beat the hated Elves! 4-2 on touchdowns and 3-0 on casualties – needless to say I was delighted as they are top of the league.
It started ominously with me being 1 nil down after 2 turns but I managed a 2 turn reply to make it 1-1 and was 2-1 up at the half. Second half the casualties and KO's mounted up and with only 11 players on his team he started to feel the pressure of being a few men short. I made it 3-1 early in the second half and went about trying to hurt as many as possible without leaving too many gaps at the back. It didn’t work and he managed a second TD. I scored my 4th TD after a riot result on the KO table, giving me that much needed extra turn to score after my dumbass thrower failed to pick up the ball with his sure hands re roll.
As far as player development goes not much happened except for my 2 touchdown goblin gaining a skill – my gut says catch and to try and turn him into a TD machine (well as far as that is possible). He impressed me with his debut performance especially as he was only involved in 2 drives and he scored in both. This is in direct contradiction to my previous experience with Goblins so I won't get too carried away yet.
My lineman I was hoping to give kick to did nothing all game, so no kick yet. I did take the Talk BB advice and decided to kick to him first – it appears to have worked so I shall try that again at the next opportunity.
I did get lucky with my opponents dice as he was failing a lot 2+ dodges and go for its – but I think it evens itself out as I seem to recall he had all the luck in our first game.
I did start one drive with 13 players but I spotted it after one turn and corrected it. My goal is to try and start a drive with all my players on the pitch (14) – only joking league colleagues if you are reading this - I genuinely am that silly.
Troll did ok with one casualty and the threat of a one score TD, however unlikely, played on my opponents mind and with one turn left he set up too defensively to take advantage of a riot result on the kick off table. Ha the git! serves him right for playing Elves.
Cheers

I have always tended towards: Diving Tackle, Side Step, Jump Up for Goblins on Orc teams.
Throw them at the opponents ball carrier on defense and use their natural scoring threat to broaden your attacking options.
With Dirty Player followed by Sneaky Git if I was lucky enough to get a double skill as the first advance.
