New Orc team - just got the game yesterday
Hi there,
I just bought my blood bowl team yesterday, and I am trying to make a usable roster of it. What I got is the following:
1 troll, 3 Black orcs, 4 Blitzers, 2 throwers, 6 line orcs and 2 gobbos. My idea for an roster so far is: 1 troll, 2 gobbos, 1 thrower, 2 black orcs, 3 blitzers and 3 lineorcs. This gives me 3 re-rolls and 1 ff (we play LRB 5)
Even though I play an orc team I want the opportunity to surprise my opponent with some passing play once in a while. I think this team can develope to excel at a combination play, mostly forming the cage with the black orcs and blitzers, but allways threathen some passes to the blitzers and gobbos. And then there is allways that long-shot of a one turn touchdown, if I ever can get that right....
What do you think people?? Any ideas for tactics or links to where to read about orc tactics would be really usefull.
Thanks in advance

The Triplepow! Magazine has an article about the Orcs:
http://triplepow.com/archive.html
It's pretty basic though, and focused on the bashy way only.
Personally, I like your lineup very much. In my opinion, Goblins are the only thing that makes Orcs fun. Playing the bashing way with caging the ball down the half is the most boring thing to do. It's very effective, but I've always given up on my Orc teams after approx. 10 games, because they were total boredom. Develop your Thrower with passing skills, make those Goblins into Catchers, and let the fun begin.

I've got an Orc team that I've played for around 35 games... Started off without a troll and with 4 BO's and 4 Blitzers, 2 lino's and a thrower. Picked up a troll and 2 gobbo's a.s.a.p. and have had nothing but fun with the team since. Throwing a highly skilled gobbo downfield to have him kill himself on the landing is a bitch, but otherwise it's a fun strategy. And if you keep yourself a couple of gobbo's as ammo you can always throw them into opposing cages to cause mayhem!

Must... Start... 4... Blitzers!
That's my 2¢. Blitzers are your best scorers and hardest-hitting players, rolled into one. Want bashy Orcs? 4 Blitzers. Want speedy Orcs? 4 Blitzers.
Speedy Orcs
4x Blitzer: 320k
2x BOB: 160k
2x Thrower: 140k
1x Goblin: 40k
3x Line-Orc: 150k
3x Re-Roll
10k for FF/treasury
Smashy Orcs
4x Blitzer: 320k
4x BOB: 320k (yeah, you'll need one more)
1x Troll or Line-Orc and Re-Roll: 110k
1x Line-Orc: 50k
1x Thrower: 70k
2x Re-Roll
10k for FF/treasury

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

Goblin Catchers is one of the main reasons I like Orcs.
It means they can be something more than just Bashy.
You do not have to throw Goblins; just the threat of it can cause oppents to hold players back!

Absolutely.... The first game's winnings (provided the Orcs remain injury free, tough) is another Goblin....Marlow wrote:Goblin Catchers is one of the main reasons I like Orcs.

4 Blitzers
3 BOBs
1 Thrower
2 Line-Orcs
1 Goblin
2 Re-Rolls
This setup gives you 12 players and only 1 Goblin, so you don't have to field him all the time, and you can generally get away with more fouls from the Line-Orcs and Goblin as a result. You don't need the 3 BOBs: you could just as easily drop one for a Thrower and 10k in the bank. However, having three BOBs and a Troll lets you establish a really optimum 3-3 nickel defense and ensure you have enough reserves if one of them gets taken out. On the other hand, having 2 Throwers really covers up for only having 2 Re-Roll counters.

I never start with the Troll. He tends to go stupid at the worst possible moment, and screws things-up. If you are new to the game, it will take a little while to figure-out how to play him without him screwing you up too much. And in my experience, Trolls are pretty useless against speedy teams, especially on defence. Elves will just avoid him. Then you have to keep a buddy next to the Troll to help with the Really Stupid rolls, and try to keep-up with the play. Once he misses his Really Stupid roll, then it's like playing man-down, and against Elves that's a very bad thing. You will want a Troll eventually, as he is pretty good on defence against slow bashy teams. And the Throw TeamMate threat is good as well.
Max-out on the Blitzers. 3 or 4 BoBs is nice. Not as strong as the Troll, but at least they do as they're told (I concur with Matt, you will need another BoB as you will eventually want 4 BoBs). I really like Gobbos, even without the Troll.
