I like either your original plan or Jural's (with the Witch). Either way, the Apo is the best first purchase by far.

Reason: ''
What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

That's why I start with 3 rerolls for a long league. I tend to pass alot, there's lots of bashy teams around here and I need to move and pass for TDs rather than run it in. I need the rerolls for the passing game in the first few games until I build a passer/catcher combo. Then I do tend to have at least 2 leapers because of the stand firm mummies and sauruses. If you can't go through them, you've got to go over them.

I try to make all of my elves blodgers. Helps keep them on their feet and they can get away from the other players. Then I really spread the skills out. Tackle, strip ball, side step, at least 2 leapers, I take any and all stat increases. Movement, Agility, Strength. (A 4 ST blitzer is great and a 4 ST Witch is nirvana). The first couple of doubles rolls is always Guard. Then Mighty Blow.

It's a Dark Elf world, we just let you live in it to provide fresh victims. - and I still want an Executioner to kill sauruses with.
