MA vs AV on a Pact Skaven

Post by Craigtw »

I rolled 10 for the skaven on my Chaos Pact team:

Ogre - (leader house rule - he is my team captain)
Mino - (block)
Troll
7 marauders (one has extra arms + accurate)
dark elf
skaven (to be upgraded)
3 RR
2 FF
1 Apoth

So should I go for the movement, the armour or a general skill?

Take the MA. General rule is MA early and AV late. Especially true here IMO. An 8337 player would be a real boon here in an otherwise slowish team, whereas 7338 isn't anything special. You have plenty of AV8 players already, and any one of them could get +1 MA themselves. A MA8 gives you an awesome 2 turn score option.

I'd go for MV7 as well. If you roll +MV on a marauder, you have a player better than the AV8 skaven could be, but MV8 lets you develop a really interesting player. I'd make him a defensive specialist myself (going in the either the shadowing route after block, or the horns/strip ball route). Otherwise, give him scoring skills and he'll really shine with the high movement.

Take the MA8.

For a skill, Extra Arms is useful, especially considering your extra arm+accurate thrower. But still, in the early games, speed is at a premium. Go for the MA8 and give him extra arms as his second skill.

The +Ma is nice but on that team I'd be tempted to ignore it and go for a skill.

It really depends how much longer you will have the team.

You've got him on the team for speed... so more speed!

Played the first game with my now faster skaven, and while it was much easier to get him into scoring positions, the pouring rain means that the dark elf was my choice receiver and scored both my touchdowns.

However, the skaven was able to get himself stuck in and lend assists and make blitzes that would have required GFIs before (and I hate those more than dental surgery!)

So all in all I am happy with the MA!
