Re-Rolls. Re-roll + Lineman = 100k = cheap. Throwers are also good deals; though I'd say they're only the 3rd best 70k Thrower as QB (after the Pro Elf and the Rat), their AV8 gives them utility as a football player that the PE Thrower doesn't share (the Skaven, with his MA7, is different, but Skaven don't have cheap RRs).

Hmm, I would take:

Ogre - Block (invaluable)
Blitzers - 3 x Guard
Blitzer - Frenzy or Tackle
Lineman - Guard

IMO one strong advantage in Humans are the Blitzers and the ability to take a lot of Guard. A bit boring but effective.

I would always take a Thrower on a Human team, Sure Hands alone is great, and never underestimate Pass. You must not rely on it, but it can save you from trouble or burning rerolls.

I prefer a Thrower to be the ball carrier. A Catcher might be faster, but if he needs to blitz his way free (that can happen), STR 2 is a disadvantage. No Sure Hands means "wasting" rerolls with AG3. And watch out against Leap.

blimey given those skill options I think the way i would go is the 5 skills and +AG

and AG4 thrower is really good, rarely will fail the pickup, can dodge away if he gets marked, can throw it better

humans also don't really need any doubles, though block is nice on the ogre

you can give him guard instead and either guard up 4 blitzers or get 3 and give one frenzy or tackle

stat increases ruin tournaments though from my experience

I'd definitely take a Frenzy or Tackle Blitzer, and I'd lean Frenzy. 3 instances of Guard is plenty: one on the nose or on Moe (depending on your opponent), and one in each wide zone. That leaves you with one skill. Thrower with Block? Lineman with Kick or Wrestle? You don't need Leader: in this format skills are worth more than cash and your TRRs are cheap. So if you're really sweating the RRs, drop the Ogre and you'll be fine. The argument for taking an Ogre really is a lot less compelling if you don't give him Block, and if you take an AG up, you can't.

If you really like Ogres with Block, you might want to game out a Side Step Blitzer to manage the right sideline, putting the Ogre in between the markers on the left-hand side (or reverse both). Then your opponent will have to make inside runs on your right and outside runs on your left, which makes it a lot easier to scheme for opposing options. Along with 3 Guard Blitzers and a Kick or Block Thrower or Wrestle lino, you can give your opponent no end of dilemmas and really shrink the field. Scroll down for threads on Pro Elves and you'll read some of my posts on the "inverted" defense: this is the "half-inverted" defense, which works really well for ST3 teams with a big guy, a doubles roll on a Blitzer, and some S access (it's really disgusting on Orcs – easy to get, too). You can use the SS Blitzer to provide cover for a Catcher or the AG4 Thrower, confident that whichever way the opponent goes the Catcher or Thrower will have a clear lane to a good position.

Code: Select all

-- -- -- --|-- -- Lm BG Lm -- --|-- -- -- --
-- -- BG --|-- OB -- -- -- -- BG|-- -- -- --
-- LM -- --|TA -- -- -- -- TB --|-- -- BS --
-- -- -- --|-- -- -- -- -- -- --|-- Ca -- --
Hmmm... you could give up Guard on the line and make the non-SS corner a bit tougher with a Frenzy Blitzer and a Stand Firm Blitzer in lieu of Guard. Stand Firm will be better than otherwise in this format because the skill rules put a premium on Frenzy, the ultimate toolbox skill, but I hate losing a Guard player over that. In the #2 and 3 diagrams below, I use BS for Blitzer with either SF or SS.

Code: Select all

With Guard, Frenzy
-- -- -- --|-- -- Lm Lm Lm -- --|-- -- -- --
-- -- BG --|-- OB -- -- -- -- BG|-- -- -- --
-- BS -- --|TA -- -- -- -- TB --|-- -- BS --
-- -- -- --|-- -- -- -- -- -- --|-- Ca -- --

With Guard, Stand Firm against Frenzy
-- -- -- --|-- -- Lm Lm Lm -- --|-- -- -- --
-- -- -- --|-- -- -- -- -- -- --|-- -- -- --
-- BS BG --|-- OB -- -- -- -- BG|-- -- BS --
-- -- -- --|TA -- -- -- -- TB --|-- Ca -- --

With Guard, Stand Firm against non-Frenzy
-- -- -- --|-- -- Lm Lm Lm -- --|-- -- -- --
-- -- BG --|-- OB -- -- -- -- BG|-- -- -- --
-- -- -- --|TA -- -- -- -- TB --|-- -- BS --
-- BS -- --|-- -- -- -- -- -- --|-- Ca -- --

With Frenzy, Stand Firm against Frenzy
-- -- -- --|-- -- Lm Lm Lm -- --|-- -- -- --
-- -- -- --|-- -- -- -- -- -- --|-- -- -- --
-- BS BF --|-- OB -- -- -- -- BG|-- -- BS --
-- -- -- --|TA -- -- -- -- TB --|-- Ca -- --

With Frenzy, Stand Firm against non-Frenzy
-- -- -- --|-- -- Lm Lm Lm -- --|-- -- -- --
-- -- -- --|-- OB -- -- -- -- BG|-- -- -- --
-- -- BF --|TA -- -- -- -- TB --|-- -- BS --
-- BS -- --|-- -- -- -- -- -- --|-- Ca -- --

OK this is what I have come up with now:
Human Thrower - Pass, Sure hands (new skill - Accurate)
Human Thrower - Pass, Sure hands
Catcher - Dodge, Catch
Catcher - Dodge, Catch
Blitzer - Block (new skill - Frenzy)
Blitzer - Block (new skill - Guard)
Blitzer - Block (new skill - Guard)
Blitzer - Block
Lineman (new skill - Guard)
Lineman
Lineman
Ogre - Throw team-mate, Mighty blow, Loner, Bonehead, Thick skull (new skill - Block)
FF - 2
3 x Rerolls
Total - 1,100,000

I have given one of the throwers accurate as it gives me more options if I go to a passing game. Big fan of block on the ogre if not giving him block it would be AG 4 on one of the throwers and block on eithier a catcher or the other thrower. Thoughts now?
