I think in some situations SS is supirior.
In others SF is supirior.
I just don't think SS is "all that" - I wouldn't blow a doubles on it.

I still think, given the skills he already has, Leap would rock.
Ah well, it ain't my team... 8)

mattgslater wrote:Stand Firm isn't half the skill Side Step is. A player with Side Step can man the corner with damn near 100% effectiveness: knocking him down doesn't open a lane! Moreover, in the scrum, every block he takes puts him where he can do the most damage. People will be horrified of the consequences of pushing him. Stand Firm doesn't do that: it wasn't as good as Side Step before they nerfed it way back when, and it sure as heck isn't as good now.
No doubt, stand firm is a poor substitute to SS, but when he makes that hit, the counter punch coming his way is twice as likely to succeed if he doesn't have dodge.

I always think a step or two down the road for development. You have to assume his next skill isn't going to be doubles or +stat. So would ya rather have dodge + general/strength or side step + general/strength?

He's already a powerful piece. Dodge just keeps him around a lot longer IMHO, and it's ability to help him reposition a blitz is a godsend.

I'm throwing my money on Side Step as well. Even with goblins, its potential is great. For a Strength-4 Blitzer, it's just about incredible. That being said, I've had a lot of fun with Jump Up too, but still, Side Step would be my choice.

i've never really found dodge to be as good as i expect on high ST pieces, esecially versus developed sides. It's so easy to negate, my blodging blitzers don't seem to last more games than those without. Plus they rarely use the dodge re-roll. I find stand firm is good, but on dynamic pieces like blitzers, the ability to reposition yourself ready to block a better target just by getting pushed is awesome.

SS for me as well, though I would still pick the overly conservative guard, over frenzy..

There are lots of good choices at 76. Frenzy and Guard have been mentioned and are hard to go wrong with (well, Frenzy can be gone wrong with, but it's a good selection is my point), but Break Tackle combines well with what he has, as do Pro, Fend and Grab. If he gets doubles, I'd take Dodge, but I could see Jump Up or Diving Tackle. Block/Side Step/Jump Up/AV9 is very disheartening.
