High Elves 1.25m Resurrection Tournament

Post by Fassbinder75 »

I'm probably going to play (assuming I get the leave pass) a 1.25k tournament on the weekend with High Elves, mostly because they're the only fully painted side I have. Besides, it should be an interesting challenge. Each side can purchase a single normal skill for each player at a cost of 20k.

2 Blitzers (both Dodge)
Thrower (Leader)
3 Catchers (1 Block, 1 Wrestle, 1 Dodge)
6 Linemen (1 Kick, 1 Block)

2 RR
1 Cheerleader (Spare 10k cash)

In this format I expect there'll be a rash of Strip Ball Wardancers and All-Guard Dwarf sides. I played a practice
game against an inexperienced player running Humans, winning handily. He did have four Guard Blitzers which cause me all sorts of Blocking fits however.

My rationale on the lineup:

Blitzers - in the practice game I took one with Dodge, one with Sidestep. The Sidestep was handy but the Dodge won me the game because his Guardzers couldn't knock him down after he recovered the ball.

Thrower - Leader has utility in that it is a cheap re-roll. I would consider Sure Hands but since I can't give him Block as well to protect myself against Wardancers I figure Leader stacks up better.

Catchers - I'm really not sure about these guys. I've always had underwhelming results with Wrestle but I know how
good it can be so I don't want to give up on it. I feel that with only 1 skill these Catchers are only half-built so I built a couple with one half, and one with the other. I figure the Dodge guy can be the offensive specialist.

Linemen - Kick goes without saying, with three Catchers blitzing I should be able to pin the opponent deep initially. Block lineman, nuff said.

Thoughts?

That looks like an excellent roster. The only change I'd make is to switch the lineman skills around, a strip ball utility lineman is nice to have. I might fiddle about with the catcher skills too but that would be to suit my own playstyle.

Are you allowed star players? If so then it might be worth considering....

Eldril Sidewinder - 170k
2 Blitzers (Frenzy/Tackle) - 240k
2 Catchers (Dodge/Wrestle) - 220k
Thrower (Leader) - 110k
6 Linemen (Kick/Strip ball) - 420k
1 RR - 50k

That would give you two mobile players and the NOS + Safe Throw combination to make offence work. The rest of the skills are aimed at defence, you have hypnogaze to open the ball up to any of your specialist blitzing players. Obviously two re-rolls would force you to play a pretty careful game though.
