Absurd "Guard" on a dwarf team

In my view, you can't have too much guard, but you can have not enough of everything else. Dwarves need block and tackle (no problem) and they need guard. But they also really need Stand Firm (At least x2, preferably x5) Mighty Blow (x4?) and it's great to have Kick, Diving Tackle, Strip Ball, Grab, and even some Piling On.
The main problem I see with guard is when people develop both blitzers and slayers with Mighty Blow and Guard. In both cases, these are your toolbox players, and they might not skill up again for a long time! It's best to get some Stand Firm, etc on them.
So the problem isn't guard, it's the lack of everything else. If you don't have Wrestle, Strip Ball, and Grab, you are in trouble eventually.

OK... he has too much Guard at his level of development. How's that?Jural wrote:In my view, you can't have too much guard, but you can have not enough of everything else.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

Jolly Goodfellas 5 RR, 10 FF, 195 TV
Slayer: Mighty Blow, Tackle, Guard, +AV
Blitzer: Guard, Sure Hands, Tackle, +MA, +AG (awesome dwarf player)
Blitzer: Guard
Runner: Block, Kick-Off Return
Blocker: Dirty Player, Guard, Side Step, +AG (sneaky player)
Blocker: Guard, Stand Firm, Grab, Mighty Blow, -AV
Blocker: Guard, Stand Firm, Grab
Blocker: Guard, Side Step, Mighty Blow, +ST, -MA (a weak mummy)
Blocker: Guard
Blocker: Guard
Blocker: Guard, Niggling
Blocker: Rookie
I will be taking some Mighty Blow now, but I didn't do it in the begining becuse they wouldn't be a popular team. I will also pick som Dauntless, a kicker and a wrestle guy can be great (use to have two wrestlers but they died).

Its well nigh impossible for dwarfs to get too much guard. 10 is pretty standard for your level of development and its really hard to skill a team so evenly that you end up with just guard and absolutely no utility skills. You dont really need too many utility skills anyway - they add the icing to a sturdy wall of guard.
Remember that you arent playing dwarfs to make other people happy, you are playing them to win. If you are trying to develop a team which passes or does crazy, risky things like fouling or dodging then you picked the wrong team.
I've done reasonably well with dwarfs recently as a personal experiment in playing "normally" so I'll post something more detailed when I have time tomorrow.
Keep it boring noob

Nobody ever claimed a good dwarf gameplan was glamorous.

Maybe Geek or Nerd, but not Noob

I've been playing on fumbbl.com but since I have the great opportunity to play blood bowl live I do that instead, tho sometimes I watch games (big tournies) at fumbbl.
Since LRB5 I have been playing theese teams in our league
Athel Loren Athletics (Wood Elf) 34/5/18
Winners: Orcidas Challenge II
Runners Up: Major IV
- Fun team, but hard to keep players from retire or dying.
- Best player alive: Marcel Sunstrike, Wardancer 9347 Block, Dodge, Leap, Sure Hands, Pass, Sure Feet (62 spp/23 games)
Bastenhof Red Sucks (Vampire) 9/2/8
Runners Up: Major VI
- Hardest team ever to be played by my, but I got to the finals!
- Best player alive: Baron Konrad von Blutheim, Vampire 6448 Bloodlust, Regenerate, Hypnotic Gaze, Block, Dodge, Leader (43 spp/19 games)
Cyclone Comets (High Elf) (7/2/5)
Runners Up: Rookie VI
- Very diffrent to play than Dark Elfs, but soo close in match!
- Best player alive: Elroy Starwind, Thrower 6348 Pass, Safe Throw, Strong Arm, Accurate, Sure Hands (46 spp/14 games) Holds the Fury League Record of 7 comps in one game and 17 comps under a season
Da Grot Squad (Goblin) (9/0/10)
- Never ever been close to winning something, but almost 50% winning is good, and very funny!
- Best player alive: Dumbass Dan, Troll 4519 Loner, Stupid, Regenerate, Mighty Blow, Block, Pro, Guard (38 spp/19 games)
Da Orcidas Boyz (Orc) (36/18/22)
Winners: Super Duper VI
- My favorite team! Love them, but don't really manage to get to finals. Lost 5 players in last Blood Bowl Championship so I have to get cash to rebuild them.
- Best player alive: Butch "Elfie" Grimface, Thrower 6348 Sure Hands, Pass, Block, Dodge, Kick-Off Return (112 spp/63 games)
Darkside Gravediggers (Undead) (23/4/11)
Runners Up: Rookie III

- Best player alive: Jake Ripsaw, Wight 6438 Regenerate, Block, Mighty Blow, Tackle, Side Step, Sure Hands (89 spp/38 games)
Jolly Goodfellas (called Oldfellas) (Dwarf) (42/10/27)

Naggaroth United (Dark Elf) (29/5/17)

Runners Up: Minor III, Fury Cup VI, Super V, Chaos Cup II
- Another favo team! It's a great team, but they are the runners up team number one! This season the will go for the "Tripple" (Series League, Fury Cup and Champions League).
- Best player alive: Leopold Hellbreeze, Blitzer 7349 Block, Dodge, Side Step, Fend, Shadowing (81 spp/50 games)

- I thougth that I would do better with lizards, but hell no!
- Best player alive: Dino Dash, Skink 8238 Stunty, Dodge, Block, Sure Hands, Side Step (56 spp/27 games) He is a tough skink!!! Love the face on the opponent when rolling 8 on AV roll, and nothing!
Rattenburg Rodents (Skaven) (43/8/22)
- My absolute favorite team and my first LRB5 team. Got two 3rd placing but thats nothing! Have been up to 250 TV then I kicked players to play in lower leagues, but now they are back to 216 TV.
- Best player alive: Sewer "Magic" Jack, Gutter Runner 9267 Dodge, Accurate, Block, Safe Throw, Leap (200 spp/64 games) My second best player! he can do wonders and magics like a god! 83 Comps and 31 TDs

If he falls over, he will be fouled to death! Best player I ever have! Problem is I don't know how to play chaos dwarfs when this cow do all the work
