Injured dark elf runner

Post by grampyseer »

Hi all,
My developed dark elf team just got creamed. 7-1 casualties from an underdog Nurgle team....What can I say? The dice were exceptionally cruel when rolled in pairs.

Runner. Dump off, sure hands, pass, accurate. MNG -1 Move.
Blitzer. blodge, Mighty blow
Blitzer. Blodge, pro
Lino. Sneaky git, dirty player, wrestle. MNG -1 av
assassin. Shadow, stab, sidestep
Lino. Str 4, fend
Witch. block
Lino. AG 5, dodge
blitzer. MNG, -1 MV
Lino. Kick
Lino. Str 4, wrestle
Lino. -1av
Witch. block
blitzer. block, tackle
3 RR
FF 11
1 apothecary..who botched the job on the runner.

What do do with the runner? turf him, as the speed will haunt me. Keep him for the valuable skills until a replacement (understudy) has skilled up?

The rookie blitzer? I can replace him right now, but will the MV really hurt me that much on this guy?

..alright..lets break into groups and brainstorm!

Ouch. I feel your pain.

I would however definately keep the runner. -1 mv is a pain in the arse to have picked up but its a lot better than -1 str, ag or maye even av.

How do you normally play him? I use mine in a loose cage and run up field but I notice you've outfitted yours with plenty of throwing skills - is he primarily a throwing piece for you then? If so mv6 isn't such a problem. Regardless I would think he's two valuable to get rid of now.

For me the -1MV rookie blitzer is more of a problem. You've got plenty of players. Do you think you could do with a 4th reroll? If so I'd get that and replace the blitzer later on if remains unskilled. If however you don't need the reroll then I'd be tempted to replace him perhaps.

I typically keep the runner in a loose cage, with a mind for a dump off if I screw up.

His passing skills let him act as kind of an insurance piece..I can change up the plan mid drive if needed.

How often does the runner need to break for it (either for the score or in retreat)?

Movement is just so crucial for getting the edge in a 50-50 game that I might dump him after a replacement runner gets his first skill.

The rookie blitzer should be replaced too if you can spare the cash. Better that then he steals MVPs or SPP and forces you to keep him.

I think I'd replace the blitzer right off.

The runner is tough. I think -1MA is bad on that piece, I recall playing a 5 MA Dark Elf thrower in LRB 4, and even with dodge and accurate, he was just not getting it done. So you need a new runner, and it's just a question of whether to start developing him now or later.

Look at your opponents and the length of your league and make a judgement call!

If you decide you can afford to replace the runner now, it might also be smart to hold on to the blitzer and keep him on the line for a few games to make sure your treasury isn't completely depleted.
