Human Blitzer 2nd skill

Post by Master Wang »

My questions about skill development continue to flow as I get to try out more teams online.

My first blitzer reached his second regular skill last night in a hilarious loss to some dark elves. He already has Guard, what next? I'm thinking Stand Firm, but there is a lot of Dodge around so Tackle would definitely get plenty of use, and Mighty Blow is also tempting but might be better left as a later skill on all four after they've got things like SF, Grab etc.

The team looks like this:

BL Guard + ???
BL Guard
BL Guard
BL
Th Pass, SH, Blk
Th Pass, SH, Accurate, Strong Arm
LM Block
LM Block
LM
LM
LM -MA
Ogre

No catchers yet due to having to replace a blitzer. -MA lineman will go after I get 2 catchers, other two Linemen will get Wrestle. Unskilled Blitzer may get Tackle as his first skill to help deal with elves, etc.

I'm thinking you can't go much wrong with Tackle. You can't outpower a power team no matter what you give them, so in my eyes you should give them skills that work well against teams you typically will be able to overpower, such as Elves and Skaven, where Tackle is very handy.

I think it's probably a good idea to tool one of them up as a pure damage machine as well, to use for blitzing when all you want to do is deliver some hurt.

I agree with tackle, it's a rare game that goes by when I don't appreciate having a player with it. Admittedly, normally I end up having him totally out of position and nowhere near the guys he's supposed to be hitting. Two is usually enough. Mighty blow isn't a far second choice early on, as it gets him SPP's faster and points mean prizes. 8)

I'd also advise thinking about giving linemen wrestle rather than block - that way you can build a wrackle (wrestle + tackle) player too, and a human defensive line of scrimmage with fend and wrestle works nicely with their MV6/AG3. *EDIT* whoops I see you mentioned the wrestle already.

I like standfirm on that guy seeing as he has gaurd. You could do worse than Tackle. I think you need a Frenzy on your team to keep people honest on D but not on this guy.S.

+1. Either that, or it allows a Magic User to cast the various Bigby's Hand spells.

Always wanted to say that.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

I always set my blitzers up 2 ways and it seems to work out.

Blitzer A&B : Guard, Standfirm
Blitzer C&D: Mighty Blow, Tackle

This way you get your Guard, Standfirm guys into position and then block/blitz with your Mighty Blow, Tackle guys.

Guard should be first skill on every Blitzer, whatever his role. The only exception I can think of is MB purely to skill up faster to get Guard. :D

But once you have that, some Tackle is golden. I have found it so useful on a Human team. They thrive on playing the opposite style to their opponents, and as mentioned to bash a fast team you need some Tackle.
