Boomer Eziasson

Post by steveq »

At the risk of starting a debate that may question the very existence of Blood Bowl (see my earlier post "Norse Lineman - Fend or Wrestle) I have another query I would like to raise :D

My Norse team has started the new season with a very nice 2-1 win over last seasons champion Orc team and now looks like this:

Thrower: AG5 30SPP
Thrower: 4SPP
Runner: Sure Hands, Sure Feet 25SPP
Runner: Dodge 14SPP
Berserker: Guard, Stand Firm 27SPP
Berserker: 0SPP
Ulfwerner: Block, 11SPP
Lineman: 0SPP
Lineman: Kick, 7SPP
Lineman: Tackle, 10SPP
Lineman: Block, 1SPP
Lineman: Tackle, Niggling Injury, MNG
Snow Troll: 0SPP (he's a pacifist :( )

My next match is against a Lizardman team and I will have a small amount of inducements and was wondering if it was worth taking Boomer. I have never used him before so I have no idea how effective he is and my concern is I will misuse him and be as much a danger to my own team as the opposition.

Any thoughts and comments appreciated.

Steve

It'd be one way of dealing with that annoying cluster of skinks - and you can be sure they'll try to cage up to protect the ball carrier. He's cheap as chips and your dwarfs will probably survive if the bomb gets thrown back.

Ummmmm... Norse....

With Accurate, he might just be the cage breaker you need.... Certainly the Sauri are NOT likely to catch the bombs.... Throw to a cage-corner Saurus and blitz in with others as the luggage flys and falls....

He should be good at busting cages, just be careful about interceptions and fumbles.

I've had great luck againsed Lizzies with bombs. All those AG1 targets is awsome!, and there is almost always one at the corner of a box. Even if a skink catches it they are poor throwers so your safer with them than you are againsed almost every other team!S.

I have used Boomer to good effect in a few tournaments and in league play.If your going to use him properly youve got to be careful. Here are a few rules I always follow:

Protect him but dont put anyone right next to him incase he fumbles.

Alway's throw the bomb to an empty square.

Only throw quick or short pass bombs.

Try to make your opponent go down the side of the pitch he is on if your using him on defence.

Use him fairly late in your turn after all 2 dice blocks and ball moving.

Minimize the chance to interceptions. Never give an elf the opportunity to intercept!!!

Use frenzy and blitzes to 'herd' other players into the blast radius of your intended bombing square. remember players on the ground can get hurt aswell.

Don't be frightened to use him on the offence aswell. I think this is where he's actually most usefull. You can blow a giant hole in their line with a bomb again with good use of 'herding' and with low AV skinks your really going to hurt your opponents team.

Dont be frightened to block or blitz with him instead. He has block after all.

If your opponent puts some tackle zones on him then try to throw bombs anyway. If you fumble then who cares! You might take them down with you and your AV9 so it's not going to hurt you. This does cause a turnover so do it last! This really messes with your opponent, he then has no real effective way of 'dealing' with him.

you cab always foul with him in the last turn of your drive as he's going off anyway.

Boomer is the most under costed star in the game. He is only worth his cash if you use him correctly though. I'd reccomend him on offence more than defence as you have greater control of his time on the pitch and therefore his effectiveness. Follow my rules and he should be a huge asset to your team.

Hope this helps

I've used boomer in leagues, he's my favourite norse inducement after the wizard. I use him similar to purdindas, who maybe has mastered bombing even better than me (I haven't considered herding).

One thing though, it's almost always better to take the free 2db if he gets tagged. He has block, so 75% chance opponent goes down, and you get a free block you would not otherwise have gotten. I guess you can throw if he gets marked by a S4 guy, though. I just would not voluntarily make him fumble, as that means next turn he won't be a threat nor will he throw a bomb.
