Post by Eski »

No chainsaws, no Pogo Sticks, no Ball and Chain..

Basically you lose badly :)

Seriously: it's all in the numbers. Foul whatever your trolls knock down but don't remove from the pitch and try to gain a numbers advantage through the deeper bench you should have.

Block players toward your trolls and if they are not hitting anyone move them next to prone players. Tying up some players with your trolls should give you enough goblins to handle the rest.

If you fail to dominate you just have to take some gambles with TTM and use your stunty skill a lot to get places the oppo doesn't expect you to be able to reach.

My Bulls have the "Thin Skull" trait. After every block they make, roll a D6. On a 1+ they get ko-ed and stay in the ko-box for the rest of the game.

Gamble. You have very little hope by playing in a conservative way. Just chuck goblins at the cage on defence and cross your fingers.

What all of the above have said. You cannot expect to play conservatively and win. you have to do the crazy plays - the multiple dodges to get to the ball carrier, the putting players into positions to control where you push and possibly chain push players into the crowd. You have to foul at every opportunity.

I would still only TTM for the TD as a last resort as failure means that you are just handing the ball over to the opponent, but it is always an option!

Loaded dice are always a help too!

I would setup for the TMM, and see how far I got without using a reroll. If the Goblin gets the ball and you your reroll left, it might be worth doing anyway.

Heh. When you said "no secret weapons" my mind took it a bit further. We have a "house team" (available for anyone to play) that has nothing but stock goblins. No secret weapons. No trolls. They truly suck, but are kind of fun to lose with.

As stated by others, the only thing you can do is to take chances. Dodging into and out of places, doing 2 die against blocks when you have to, and FOUL, FOUL, FOUL!

After 10 games, they have 1 Sneaky Git, 1 with Block and a broken neck (-1 AG), one with just a broken neck, one with a fractured skull (-1 AV), one with a serious concussion (-1 AV), one with a broken neck (-1 G), one with a smashed collar bone (-1 ST), one with dirty player and two fractured skulls (-2 AV!), and one with just block. 7 RRs. They have 1 win, 2 ties and 7 losses.

What could be more fun? :D

Now that does sound entertaining.. Okay I'm looking at getting 4 pre league skill rolls for the next league these little buggers have entered.. what would be the best suggested skill sets, initially on the bases I have no SW's.

I suppose I could throw gobbos at the other team.. try and knock them over that way

Here is a pretty neat guide I used to use the little gits : http://www.bbpb.de/goblin-strategy-guide

It may be dated back to LRB 4 but most of what is mentioned is pretty relevent. Also, to add on what the others have said: I will disagree with one point, you CAN play conservatively, or to a certain extent. If you keep playing the rash risky plays, you are, in my view, essentially making it more difficult for yourself and in the case of a turn over, lining up your opponent for a good TD.Bassically, open tackle zones, dodge out, and try to mark as best you can with the trolls.

Just one last note, despite not having the secret weapons, one slight advantage is you are not going to lose as many players [Depending on your luck] due to none of your players being automatically sent off. You lack hitting power but at least you will always have reserves.

Just play the same way as before when they didn't have secret weapons on roster.

Most the new skills require doubles with wrestle the most likely one you would consider, so all the old goblin guides shouldn't be outdated like the rest.
