Starting Roster Underworld + skills

Post by JaM »

Hi all,

How about this startingroster for Underworld at 100:

2 x blitzer
2 x thrower
1 x lino
1 troll
6 goblins
4 rerolls

13 players

Hopefully buying an apo after game 1, and the skaven lino after game 2.
Goblins will be replaced/journeymanned/borrowed.

Any comments ?
What about skill progression on both the skaven and the gobs ?

Blitzer: claw, guard, tackle, frenzy,...
Thrower: block, accurate, extra arms,...
Linerats: kick (?), block, claws, ....
Troll: too much... claws, tentacles, disturbing precense, guard,...
Gobbos: two heads (how much ?), extra arms (?), claws, ...?

Hope to hear from you all,

JaM

That is 12 players. Decent starting roster. One of two possibles IMO, the other being 11 players with all the Skaven, troll, 4 goblins and 4 rerolls. I started the latter.

Development:

Blitzers: MB is better than Claw. A killer wants MB > Claw > Piling On then some of Tackle/Frenzy/Horns. But the team needs some Guard so you have a dilemma IMO.
Throwers: Block > Two Heads. I wouldn't develop these as quarterbacks really ... Goblins are much better ball handlers with Two Heads to get out of trouble.
Linemen: Block or Wrestle > Tackle > Claw/Two Heads
Goblins: Two Heads (first on everyone) then a smattering of Horns/Extra Arms/Big Hand. Don't ignore normal skills like Catch/Side Step/Sure Feet after Two Heads either. Good for TTMs especially.
Troll: loads ... Tentacles/Claw/Guard stand out. Strong Arm is amazing for TTMs. Prehensile Tail combos well with Tentacles. Block on double obviously.

I started same as Joe did

though i disagree about building the thrower to carry the ball

gave mine extra arms first, which is also handy for completions for team mates to skill up, have no issue with getting AG3 ball carriers out of trouble on other teams and you can get two heads easily enough

Block will be next though, might be better to go the other way around taking block first

planning on one blitzers to be a killer he got a double first off so i went jump up, the other can get guard along with linerats on doubles

been quite a few other threads about skilling up underworld, perhaps you should do a search before darksun sees this ;]

Thanks, indeed 12 players. Getting old I guess...

It would be nice if "we" could make a sticky for all the info on the new teams (Underworld, Chaos Pact, Slann). Would save a lot of us the trouble of looking around AND posting new threads about it.

Seriously, I did search. Not too good obviously...

I'll probably start with the all-skaven roster then. I really want 4 rerolls from the beginning, should be enough.

So the minis I want to make are (model-wise)

2 blitzers with some kind of claws
2 throwers with extra arms and/or a big hand
2 linerats with nothing special model-wise.

goblins: a load of 2 heads (8 ?)
2 of them with extra arms,
1 of them with horns,
1 of them with a big hand.
And some without mutations (journeyman, possibly).

I'm thinking of sawing a Mordheim ratogre inhalf, lengthwise, and then adding another half from a troll.
I'll probably give it the head of some kind of big guy I still have here, somewhere...
Not sure.

Who knows, I'm just pondering here. thanks for the comments so far, real helpful :).

Cheers,

JaM

just search this section for underworld, with topic titles only selected

otherwise you will get loads of off topic results as well where anyone mentioned underworld in the thread

One more vote for the all-skaven roster. They really are the most important players on the team so taking them right from the start will help you win matches right away. Additionally, SPP's on the rats are probably better value than getting them on the gobbos so that's another reason.

My instinct is that the Underworld is best suited for the role of a mobile killer team. The troll and two blitzers, even supported by the linos with Block+Claw+Tackle and MB on doubles, can really pack a lot of hurt. The gobbos do a good job of providing assists so Guard hasn't really felt that important.

And Two Heads on the goblins as a first skill is a good plan. I took Horns on the first one to skill up but it's really difficult to use with any real effect.

Grum: yes :). "we" should ask/tell the mods to do that though.

Ullis: that's the idea, indeed. Will be fun to convert, I am still looking for suitable Skaven models. Maybe I should look into the beastman-range from GW... :-?
