Re: League Human starting team (TV100)
It's been a while but these limping legends are now 'back on their feet' after 12 games. TV is about 140 and I'm now up to a 13 player roster.
1x Ogre - GUARD
4x Blitzer - 1x MIGHTY BLOW & GUARD, 1x DODGE.
2x Catcher - BOTH BRAND NEW after the last game.
1x Thrower - +1AG
5x Linemen - 1x +1ST, 1x -1AG, BLOCK & GUARD, 1x BLOCK. Three of the five have niggles.
It's been a long and hard road with a less than impressive 5-1-6 record. Having said that, four of the six losses were in my first five games further compounding the misery of the 7deaths in 3games I had to start the league with... dark times indeed. The biggest learning experience from this was manageing the inducements. In some games I also had to feild up to six Journeymen.
By far the greatest inducement would be a THROWER with LEADER, for 150k he comes with all the skills you need (my only thrower was dead) AND an extra re-roll to turn the full-time players (even linemen) into catchers. BABES are always worth it and it's always worth bearing in mind that you MUST always attack WITH OPTIONS with a human team.
I don't intent to post anymore blogs on this team as I feel (HOPE is probably more appropriate - Dwarves are my next game) that the worst is over and that it's back into the territory of 'normal' development now. As usual; comments and quieries are welcome.

Re: League Human starting team (TV100)
Nice to see your team continuing Welshy.
It made me use humans in our league. Althoguh went for a 6x Linesman, 2x Thrower, 4x Blitzer + 4 Rerolls.
Managed to keep them healthy after 4 games and have a Thrower with block, 2 blitzers with mightyblow and guard, 1 blitzer with guard, other nothing yet.
3 linesmen have 2 SPP's and the other thrower has 3SPP's
I'm now on 160k in the bank 3FF (should be 4 but since i made a cockup on a GFI thinking it was injury roll and not armour first i defected the win due to my honourbound self)
So I'm thinking of an ogre or a catcher.
That will put me to 13 players either way, and 4 rerolls is a solid amount.
The humans have so far won vs orcs, dark elves, another dark elf team, undead... still got to play amazons and goblins but think i'm playing a dark elf guy again soon.
I am wishing catchers were Str 3 then i'd have used one in a heart beat, but I'll get one anyways soon as a mobile asssit / tackler.

Re: League Human starting team (TV100)
First time I've played humans in a league.
I am amazed at their lack of finesse.
1 ogre
1 catcher
4 Blitzers (1 with dodge now)
6 Linos (1 with dauntless)
1 Thrower (with strong arm)
apoth and 2 rerolls
new purchase: a Thrower... will pad the team out and then go for the rerolls.
2 games in, waiting for our third. Beat orcs 2-1 in OT and lost to vampires 2-1.

Re: League Human starting team (TV100)
That lack of finesse you're complaining about? That's called 2xTRR. Get a third one, plus another Catcher and another Thrower, and you'll see a big difference.

As others have said ouch to your 2 rerolls. I'd only feel slightly comfortable with 3, and the 4th I managed makes me feel alot safer using some on lesser things like rerolling blocks or doing a more risky play.
You could get leader on thrower to give another cheap reroll maybe?

I am a fan of starting without an Ogre, in order to start with 3 Re-rolls and an Apoth.
It pays for certain teams to start with an Apoth. I would count Humies, Skaven and Underworld among them.

Re: League Human starting team (TV100)
I've just played my 14th game and my WDL ratio is now 6/2/6. Considering a 3game losing (and dying) streak at the beginning, I'm reasonably happy with that.
Smurf: I too was disappointed with the 'off the shelf' lack of finesse. AG3 just won't cut it by itself, humans RELY on re-rolls, be they skill or TRR. For this reason I confirm the TWO main options for humans are as stated below.
Duce: This option really allows a decent early spread on SPP's without relying on too many 'special players'. Blitzers and even linemen are fine with a TRR in hand and you should have plenty with four to start and some throwers on the pitch.
Smeborg: Smeborg's 3xBlitz, 3xTRR 12player inc Apoth Option is probably the best one all around. It allows you to save for your Blitzer/Ogre early... This is if you bother with one at all. NB: I'm becoming a hater of my Ogre... I would certainly NEVER start with one again.

Re: League Human starting team (TV100)
I tried starting with noe in practise games... never again, hes just too much cost for what i liked and the bonehead hurt. Thats why I swapped rosters for the league.
I've also just bought him after 5 games (As well as an apoth and extra linesman) So its not all that bad as he now has 4 guard blitzers supporting him as he skills up and covering gaps he might create.
First skills so going to be guard or break tackle. and block on doubles. maybe jugger if I don't get block on by 3rd roll.

Re: League Human starting team (TV100)
I really like Ogres, but I've come to the conclusion that it's best to start with all the other pieces in place, then hire the Ogre later. Has anybody experimented with leaving 50k in the bank to make it easier to hire the Ogre? That way, if you run into an opponent with 1M all spent, you get a Babe.
Or just 30k, to take a maximal roster without maximising.
4x Blitzer
2x Thrower
1x Catcher
4x Lineman
1x Apothecary
3x TRR
30k Treasury

I may be weird, but i'd honestly swap the apoth for a 4th reroll. Saves having to buy it when the league begins and paying double, whereas the apoth is a straight cert after first game with 30k already in bank.
Curious how the catcher would work and if he'd be picked on due to lower str. Though his moe 8 would be very handy to have for quick flank change plays.
As you said Ogre can eb bought after 4-5 decent games with no losses. then he can fit into a semi skilled team hopefully.

Re: League Human starting team (TV100)
Ah. I like to start an Apoth over TRR#4, especially on a team like this, which doesn't need a ton of TRRs. This is because AV8/AG3 teams without an Apoth tend to take deaths. I think of the eventual 50k extra spent on the TRR as sort of an insurance policy. Also, I want to get an Ogre first, but I want an Apoth before I get the Ogre.

Re: League Human starting team (TV100)
I think this sums up the 'balance' nicely. You either go with the Apoth and SKILLED players (catcher, throwers etc) as they have build in RR's OR you go with more TRR's, more linemen/blitzers over skilled players. In both cases 12players and an apoth ASAP (if not start) is the name of the game.mattgslater wrote:...because AV8/AG3 teams without an Apoth tend to take deaths. ...
In all cases I'd not start with an OGRE again LONER/BONEHEAD is just a nasty combo for a rookie team.

I think there are a small number of teams who do well to start with an Apoth. Chief among these are Skaven and Humies, but I think you can also include Norse and 'Zons.
