Halfling Team Choice and Tactics

Post by furstyferret »

I'm thinking of using my newly bought Halfling team in our upcoming league and was hoping for some thoughts.

I've searched the net and this website for guides and tactics, but there is very little that is up-to-date.

This issue I'm having is deciding how much to roster and how much to induce to begin with. Our league is planning to play two pre-season 'friendlies' where players cannot be seriously injured or killed, star player points are earned as normal and cash of D3x10,000 + 10,000 for winning and Fame each. I also need to consider this as I could have higher inducements for the start of the season.

Can any 'fling vets out there give me any ideas for a starting lineup, and point me in the direction of strategy guide.

Have a listen to this podcast from Three Die Block, it was recorded this month so is very current! It also features Tom Anders who champions and developed the halfling team on the Blood Bowl Rules Comitee

I tried that and found I just kept getting outnumbered, especially bad if a tree roots, or can't get up

then there are the games against other teams that aren't also under 1000 tv where you don't get deeproot either

Really? That roster gives you 13 players with Deeproot normally. I don't normally lose more than 2 for the first half.

Also note that was a roster for a league of all starting with all or vast majority of new teams. If the average TV of the league is 138 or more than my starting roster was:
2 Treemen
12 Flings
3 Re-rolls
3 Asst. Coach
3 Cheerleaders
Apothecary
9 Fan Factor
20k in the bank

Is that a good idea? There is no guarentee that you will get extra RRs from the Chef (leaving you with 1 or 2 RRs at worst), and extra RRs down the line cost alot more.

the thing with flings is not how may rr's YOU have but how many you potentially deny your opponent of.

hence 2 cheerleaders and an assistant coach is better than that extra fling once you get above 12 or 13 players (providing you have low enough tv)

i've never played them starting up in an established league and like the look of Toms second roster.

honestly potential RR denial and the forrest on the line is a bash coaches nightmare hence my only record i'm proud of 5/0/0 with flings against dwarf :orc:

my chef was rubbish and halflings are squishy, it is quite easy to lose them

not to mention trees getting bogged down, or even worse stuck on the floor cause they can't get up

I've seen that roster suggested a lot, I don't recall reading much feedback from other coaches though, I can see it working, just for me the one time I tried it things didn't go well, but that can happen for any team

I played against the roster and it is very good.

My opponent had bad luck a the trees could not crack the armour but it required me to do a lot of thinking.

I agree that the most annoying part was losing RR. A good fling coach has always a plan to capitalise on your turn-over.

I won in the end, but 2-0 and only because of bad luck on the other side.

I have nothing to add but I'm thinking of starting a team.

You might want to look at this page though: link
