1150 Lizards Res tourney - skill options

Post by Greyhound »

Hi, I'm trying to bring the lizards to a low TV resurrection tourney (1150) Teams will be reset after each game so there is no need to keep track of Star Player Points

Skills are added after with the following options:
Skill Set A: 4 x Skills + 2x Doubles
Skill Set B: 4 x Skills + 1x Double +MA (OR) +AV
Skill Set C: 5 x Skills +1 AG
Skill Set D: 4 x Skills +1 ST

1x Star player acceptable.

I'm thinking that I'm going to fight a tough fight with Dwarves and Norse Guarding up the game won't be pretty. I've been told to build some bench and go for skills like tackle and kick. I think it's making the team even more average and without Block I'll be pretty much out-bashed, out passed and out played.

So I'm thinking of going for a risky but fun line up.
Skinks x 3 (60 x 3 = 180)
Saurus x 6 (80 x 6 = 480)
Kroxigor x1 (140)
Hemlock x 1 (170)
Rerolls x 3 (180)

Total 1150

Skills optionC
4 x normal skill on the Saurus (3 Block, 1 Break Tackle)
1 x normal skill on the Krox (Guard)
+1 AG on a skink.
-----------------

The AG4 Skink should be able to do miracles (dodge anywhere on 2+) and I will reduce the risk of pick-up fails (the skink curse) by a lot. I can even try some risky short pass (AG4 overcoming Stunty) for a desperate run-pass-run-handoff-run.
If he croaks I have Hemlock (Blodge/sidestep/Jump-up/Stab) which is a difficult target, and if this one hit the deck two I still have 2 skinks.
I also man up the front line with 7 ST4(+) and 3 Block, 1 Guard, and a break tackle to help the reposition.

Let's admit it Lizards at this TV are not the most competitive team (Hello Chaos Dwarf!) but I believe this line up has potential for fun and challenging games.

My alternative to play it safe is:
Skinks x 5
Saurus x 6
Kroxigor x1
Rerolls x 3
Apothecary 1
Total 1150

Skills as above, less fun though.

Talk to Pippy about that!

The "safe" roster is definitely best. I'd be tempted by skills 1 to block the Krox, then maybe a SH skink/leader saurus. Having said that I do like the AG4 skink. I have 2 in a fumbbl team, and they are awesome.

I'd vote the first one, and not just because its more fun.

Hemlock can act as the poor man's tackle - Stab ignores blodge. Against Av9, he has as much chance (1/6) of knocking the player over as a one dice block against a blodger. Against those Av7 elves/amazons, he's actually pretty tasty. Factor in his supreme maneouverability (sidestep, dodge, stunty, jump up), and he's a very threatening little piece against certain types of players.

+Ag on the skink is pure gold though

safe roster

5 block saurus ag4 skink and he gets his personal apo as he may as well be wearing a neon sign saying "kill me i'm a real danger"

no need to guard the krox as it'll bone head when its vital and if you're needing to use BT you're already in trouble so 5xx block saurus will help you with all the guard you may be facing

In my league play I have seen better result from my 2x Break Tackle Saurus than my block ones (also 2 of them).
Block is really the best skill overall, but break tackle allows you to move that cage and to change side a lot faster. It plays really well with MV6. Last game I even rolled a 6 on my first dodge which meant that I could still risk a further dodge (using BT) and bring my Saurus in position to block the way.

I might go for 5x Block and 1 AGI in the end, to try it out.
Solutions involving Sure Hands don't really cut it for me. I have a Sure Hands skink in my league and it is really nice but that's because I don't have a AG4 skink (yet!). I think the AG4 skink is more likely to have an impact on the game than a Sure Hands skink.

I see more voices for the second roster yet I can only hear the lonely one who tells me to go with Hemlock. I completely agree with the poor man tackle.

Tourney went really well so I thought I'd post the team here.

I'm sure facing different teams another setup might have worked as well (or better) but I think I got the most of every single point.

My team was:
1 Kroxigor, who got taken down in one game but it wasn't disastrous
6 Saurus, 5 of them skilled with block, I might have lost one in one game, but aside from that they played really well, causing havoc on other teams. ST4/Block was great when receiving and I broke down the LOS better than expected
2 unskilled skinks. I made the mistake of fouling once with one of them which wasn't a really good move, but aside from that they provided a great screening/mobile assists.
1 AG4 Skink. He was great but failed to pick up the ball 3 times, even with reroll (so sure hand would not have been better). However once he had the ball, amazing.
1 Hemlock (Star Player). My opponents hated him and he attracted much blocks. He also caused much damage with his stabbing and I think he was the gem in the team. Couldn't have done it without him

I played against Chaos Pact (Lost 2-1) It was a close game. I'd love to play Chaos pact again and see if I can wing it. I initially got half the team out of the pitch but they came back in the second half. I had some miserable rolls (compensated with lucky rolls in the other games) and the CP coach just outplayed me.
Ogres (Won 2-0) I never played ogres before and I often didn't know what to do... I also got my triple skull against them, which reminded me than no block is really safe.
Amazons (Won 2-0) the Saurus did most of the job and Hemlock finished a few blodgers
Slanns (Won 2-0) fouling the catcher was the best thing I did here. A lot of bad luck from the Slann early in the game meant that they ran out of frog's legs by the end of the game.
