Starting skaven roster for 6 game prog league.

Post by Wylder »

Considering the following two options:

2x Blitzers 2x Blitzers
3x Runners 4x Runners
1x Thrower 1x Thrower
5x Linemen 4x Linemen
3x Rerolls 3x Rerolls
1x Apoth 1x Apoth
3x FF 0x FF

The issues are as follows:

The left roster is a little more durable. Less positionals means less people needing to use the apothecary if they get hurt (I'm fine with running journeymen on a skaven team). First purchase would probably be the fourth runner. However being a fixed, six game prog league, I don't see myself having enough funds to get a rat ogre any sooner then the 6th game as total winnings of 230k is not likely in anything under 5 games.

The right roster is probably better at winning games from the start due to the extra runner. They will however have less strength, and may take more injuries. It's also only two KO/CAS on linos away from having to field blitzers on the LoS. On the plus side, it should only take 3 games (assuming wins) to get to the rat ogre. On the down side, more positionals means less linos to soak up the damage and may mean cash has to be spent replacing positionals. This may mean that I never get to spend the cash on the rat ogre anyway.

Thoughts?

P.S. This comp starts in less than 48 hours.

I would go with the 4 gutter runner list you dont play skaven for their durability. Though you will probably find you will go through lineman faster than you will Gutter runners, gutter runners can get away with ease, far far away.

3 GR
2 Throwers
10K treasury

Your throwers are just linerats with sure hands and pass- a bargain for the extra 20K. The last thing you want is to be stuck without a thrower in the backfield anyway. Also, 4 GR's when you're on defense can be tough.

1x Rat Ogre
2x Blitzers
2x Runners
1x Thrower
5x Linemen
3x Rerolls
0x FF
10k in the bank to buy the Apoth ASAP

I've started with this recently, part of the reason for taking skaven was access to the RO so I didn't want to have to wait several games to buy him. I don't mind throwing journeymen onto the LOS if I need to until I can buy those next runners. With the RO the team has that extra bite IMO, the runners are great but I think the team is stronger with all parts combined. I find this lineup is quite luck dependent though, but then the skaven seem more dicey to me as I'm used to playing elves.

Your second roster is what I would go with, no question.

I'd take b-sides advise. (2 throwers).

The league is only six games, IF you are going to pick up/pass, at least have 2 players doing that. It frees up the runners who can be downfield and recieve.

Throwing QPs and perhaps getting an MVP means a skilled player. Throwers are indeed (sometimes) gloryfied linerats. get them block and let them work.

3 runners, 2 throwers would be my choice.
