Discuss Fantasy football-style board games - GW's Blood Bowl, Impact!'s Elfball, Privateer Press' Grind, Heresy's Deathball, etc. THIS IS NOT AN NFL FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE!

I noticed something funny in that play. Many coaches set up their best pieces on 'their side of the board', having noticed that you set up yours on 'your side of the board'. To offset this, be consciously aware of what you are doing.
That's why we sit behind our endzones down here!
That and it reminds rookies to get up and hover over the pitch.

I had written quite the little essay describing why this entire thread is a waste of time until I spotted the irony and realised I'd overanalysed your overanalysis.
With the greatest respect to your efforts, this is an absolutely pointless discussion. It's overly verbose and adds nothing to the game.

Yeah it is a shame as the idea had potential but most of the thread seems to have ended up being about which horrible confusing bit of jargon to use and tedious discussions about what to call parts of the pitch.
I think you would probably benefit a lot more from just writing an article and then “publishing” it and could then refine it based on the feedback it generated.
Another idea that could be interesting would be something similar to those chess puzzles you see in newspapers using BB player. Set up a scenario either real or imagined, give the score and turn plus state of the teams and players could discuss the best options. It could work really well if it was a big game between 2 good players as they could comment on how they got to that point and their reaction to what happened.

Potentially but unlike chess there are no 100% correct moves - granted that part would encourage discussion.
But I don't think this thread would be able to offer anything at all in situations like that, which couldn't be done quicker, easier and more understandable than the play creator.
I was under the impression that this thread was intended to be a discussion of positional strategy and that all that other stuff was just definition work to define the terms of the strategic discussion.
Unfortunately the part I wanted to read died on the vine.

There isn't a "best" move in most situations in chess either!
An interesting one was one that was ran on FUMBBL (and possibly other places) a while ago, where someone posted a puzzle where an orc team had to score a TD on turn 15. There were about 9-10 different feasible combinations, and he ran a poll with options for each one.
He then sat down with a calculator and worked out the probability of each move (and trusted people not to cheat and do the same), and announced the "winning" variation as the one with the highest probability of success.
If you confine the parameters (specifically, remove the consequence for failing early rather than late, and make it a "succeed win, fail lose" type of puzzle) it can be quite interesting.

Not so sure about that. Just putting it all together, and ran into a real-life snafu on the way that kind of derailed my BB philosophizing through April. I don't think that a TFF thread is really the best place to explore this, as we're going to end up going round and round on old stuff while talking about new stuff, hence the endless (and often pointless) terminological discussions. But that's just a matter of organization and time.

I am not sure why you bother to debate it. If you are making this thread your forum for a discussion on the positional aspects of Blood Bowl then just define the terminology you are going to use and move on.
Anyways, I didn't mean that statement about it dying on the vine to be critical of you. Real life always trumps games IMO. I just meant that I was indeed looking forward to it and continue to try to develop my play with the ideas of proper positioning and how to maximize that position with skill selections.
Frankly I think that a TFF thread is the best place to discuss it. Just because there are some folks that want to shoot holes in what you are doing doesn't make it a bad place for the discussion. All it really does is present another side (so long as those opposed are presenting that opposition in the spirit of the thread).
