Norse Development 4 games in.

Post by Urb »

Been playing norse in my TT league. My next game is vs lizards or zons. Neither particularly developed.

My roster 4 games in (4-0 :))

1. Yeti - MB
2. Ulf - Block
3. Ulf - Rookie
4. Blitzer - MB
5. Blitzer - MB
6. Catcher - +MA, skill (regular)
7. Lineman - rookie
8. Lineman - skill (regular)
9. Lineman - Tackle
10. Lineman - skill (regular)
11. Lineman - rookie

One lineman will get tackle as it's a dodge heavy league. I guess dodge on the catcher although I'm tempted to give him something silly like stripball or surehands. Not going too, just tempted.

My dilema is whether to give the other lineman kick. I'm a reactive player. I have an idea the way I want the game to flow but I don't count on anything happening, other than knockdowns. For the most part kick wouldn't change anything I do however there have been a limited number of times I wished I had kick. Kick certainly has caused me to tie a game once. Stupid slow moving Khermi not being able to 2 turn score from a deep kick.

Anyways... I can see the value of kick vs zons. Lizards not as much. Opinions?

I would have thought kick would be great against Lizzies. Kick it short and they have to seriously worry about failing to pick up.

Your team is looking GREAT! so far,
Catcher=Dodge (YES!)
Lineman=tackle (I'd prefer Dirty Player, but Tackle is more than acceptable considering opponents/play style)
Lineman=Kick (YES! Especially if you already have 2 tackles elsewhere)

You just need to get used to using kick. It may take you some trial and error, but Norse linemen are SO good as is, and you have some tackle. You won't be sorry!

Buy more linemen and take Tackle for both linos. Three Tackle linos will create issues for all dodgy teams. Or if you can afford more linemen right away, then take Dirty Player for the other.

I don't think Norse are a good team to take advantage of Kick because they're slow and lack high AG. And all norse linos have to be ready for los duty against all teams. Kick would be utterly wasted there.

I'm trying out a "spam fend" norse list on Cyanide. Apart from a couple of mistakes that won't die all the line men are taking Fend as a first skill. I also loaded linemen from the start and still have 10 on the roster (with no runners or throwers). Its quite fun to play and makes me think a lot more about positioning the linemen. Its a bit weird having a team that both has tons of frenzy, and tons of anti frenzy :)

Tackle and Kick are cool. I'd consider Dauntless as well. Fend for skill number two where appropriate.

Runner: Dodge

Lino#1: Tackle

Lino#2: Dirty Player

and buy two extra Linemen!

Fend and spam seem to go well together.

Thanks guys. I played my 5th game vs the lizards and whoa, that was a close one. 1-0 for me. Didn't help my yeti cas himself against a blocking saurus.

I took kick. After playing I kinda wish I took tackle. 2 just didn't seem like enough and kick seemed to have minimal impact. This is exasperated that I have to play zons next. Should be ok. Another skill on a blitzer means PO. So far MB through 3 games has netted just 2 KO's. Seems kinda pathetic but PO should change that in a hurry.

Ah DP. Great skill. Great. Not ready to take that skill yet. Truth be told I hate fouling. I don't mind people kicking my players and I'll do the odd foul vs fallen stars but generally it's a tactic I avoid. I think it really puts people off. In my league atleast.
