Another one for persevering. Your team might become a team full of character like my own dark elves: Kozakken Kouboys

You have to keep going and I agree with Joemanji - they suddenly come to life once you get a few skills. Interested you took tackle before dodge on your blitzers but that team will start coming together in short time.

Keep going.
Already got a solid core building up. +MA is superb on a Blitzer, and AG5 has enough 2+ rolls to have a dedicated ball carrier if needs be, so you won't feel the lack of Runner as much.
Blitzers are both a lot more reliable and a lot more vital to success than Witch Elves in my experience, especially before getting skill rolls, so I'd rather take the 3rd reroll to help them do their job as well as possible than have a Block-less ST3 Frenzy player who will eat re-rolls blocking.

I always take Tackle as my first 2 Blitzer skills. Great both for hunting down receivers and clearing paths more effectively if you get the down over a push. Second 2 Blitzers get Dodge first and are more scoring-orientated.

Thanks for the feedback guys, not usually playing elves it's been an interesting learning curve and I wasn't sure if they could recover from the initial hits. People seem pretty confident they can and that'll be enough for me to give 'em a crack.

Thanks,
Hosko

Well, 6 months later and I've claimed the Grand Final win for Season 5 of one of our local leagues.

The Ninth Circle

My thoughts on whether I should have re-started the team, I think that a re-start after game one would have been in order. By game six it was too late.

23 games later and the team is still playing with journeymen and although there has been some very useful players developed, I've also had a few die (which helped with spiralling expenses).

That AG3 guy, well he survived right up until the second half of the Grand Final and he's stood toe to toe with Trolls, Black Orc's, Minotaurs, Kroxigors and a raft of other bash players. Crazy.

AND the teams developed some of that character Mepmuff was talking about.

Cheers,
Hosko

Nice.

Sticking with them is always the way to go.

My Dark Elves in the OCC looked far worse after their first disastrous season, but now they're competing in Division 1 after three strong seasons.

Elves have to be prepared to bounce back from traumatic injuries.

Great to hear that you stuck with them. Whilst it might be tough in the short term playing under strength can really help you improve as a coach too.

If any team can compete whilst down players it’s elves, heck when facing 5 they are still a credible scoring threat and I’ve seen people manage with less than that.

Journeymen are not so bad and can be a great thing as you are free to leave them next to nasty opposing players. With AG4 you can keep them out of trouble, but just treat them as a big guy and leave their actions till last unless you really have to. Best of all if they get some spps’ then you can hire them.

I’ve seen a fair number of nasty and successful elf team with 4 or 5 mega players a couple of low skilled players and the rest rookies or journeymen.

Glad you made it :)

So out of interest I think the DE are the most expensive team to purchase, and hence need the most management to get them into shape initially. Do you have any further advice as you seamed to go down game1 but surly prudent purchases would of been ok for the first few games to get them back-on-track?

How would you plan your perseverance strategy next time?

The choice was pretty much made for me :D

So it's hard to say what I would do differently.

I kept using Journey Elves to top up the roster, pretty much every game and saved up cash whenever I could. I couldn't really do any more than that.

Purchase schedule after game one was the Apoth, replacement Blitzer, witch elves, 2 x re-rolls and 2 x runner's.

But my winnings rolls were on the lite side and it took me until the end of the second season to get almost that far, I never got the second runner.

Isn't dark elf the strongest elf starter with the 4 blitzer, 1 runner, 2 re-rolls line up. I found them to be much easier than high elves but of course dice may have affected that perception.

It's the lack of MA8 and ball skills. Without any ST or Guard, they lack punch, so not having speed or a good passing game really hurts. They start with a jump on Block and Dodge over other elves, but not really over other teams in general. They tend to rely on medium-difficulty rolls, like 2+ dodges and handoffs, and 1d skilled blocks, or even medium-hard actions, like QPs, uphill blocks and dodges into coverage, with only 2TRR. Against other Elves, Dark Elves have a small rookie advantage. But until they get a double or stat (pretty much anything), or at least a few skills (three?), they struggle against most teams. Doesn't take long: because they have so much AG4 and good-enough Armour, they start spiraling upward after the second or third game (regardless of TV).

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.
