Looking for a finesse team in a bashy league
Our league is going to be starting a new season soon and I'm considering trying a finesse team in it. So far, I've only played Chaos Dwarves and enjoyed them. Our league has a pretty heavy bash slant with lots of orcs, a few chaos, nurgle, ogres, etc. One wood elf, one skaven and one slann make up our more agile teams.
How do the different elf teams play? I've played around with them on the cyanide game, but wanted some people with more experience? Are they competitive out of the gate against these bashy teams? Do Slann really qualify as a finesse team against guys like this?

If you are not afraid you could try a dark elf finesse team. With four blitzers you can get speed and block in a package, and a witch lets you get players off the pitch.
Wood elves are faster and safer, but have much lower AV.
High Elves have a nice thrower, still allowing the passing game easily, while also having better AV than Wood or Pro. (Until you start adding catchers, which should be one at a time until they are blodgers or wrodgers)

Dark Elves will be best if the other teams have skills already as you have 4 players that only need 6spps to get Blodge.

6 players that are 6 SPP from blodge, actually.Jimmy Fantastic wrote:Dark Elves will be best if the other teams have skills already as you have 4 players that only need 6spps to get Blodge.
Slann will play well against bash as they start to get developed, but they will have it rough early.
Dark elf is your safest bet.

I wouldnt recommend starting with the witch elves.
4 Blitzers and 2 RR for me. The witches are a bit of a liability early and obv starting with all 6 would be silly cos u would have no rr at all.

This looks like a promising environment for AG4 teams, if there are no Dwarfs or Chaos Dwarfs. Also, many of the bash teams you cite start with no Block, so you should not get beaten up unduly.
How the AG4 teams play and develop is determined by (1) their AV, (2) the amount of starting Dodge, (3) their base cost, and (4) their starting skills/stats. Higher AV (DEs and HEs) can manage longer drives, lower AV (Es and WEs) are more "death or glory" in style. Starting Dodge (DEs and WEs) is a definite help, it brings much increased mobility plus protection. Base cost is a big handicap, however (DEs and WEs suffer the most here). Starting skills/stats are markedly different, especially for the DEs (no passing game), and the WEs (max speed, low ST).
I quite like (Pro-) Elves as a team. They are easily the cheapest of the 4 Elven teams, this gives them a decent start as well as some resilience in the longer term. They have some great skill combinations on their 2 outstanding player types (Catch/NoS on the Catchers, Block/S-Step on the Blitzers). They have one of the best offenses in BB, and play a strong counter-attacking game (before they disappear into the dugout).
But you should just pick whichever of the AG4 teams you like and give it your best shot.

I just meant that you have 6 slots that are always 6 SPP from being blodgers however far along the team moves. It's powerful. You don't get all 6 out of the gate, but it's still a great characteristic of the team.

Thanks for the suggestions. Now I have to find some elf models I like.

Another vote for Dark Elves. I love playing them in bash heavy leagues.

Yeah also had great success with a dark elf team in a bashy league. All the others focused on guard and mb rather than tackle so when my team was mostly blodged up, they were really hard to take down.
