Break Tackle on the Troll? You want to dodge with it? Another chance of faaling down?
If using a troll, then just a meat shield, giving assist to others (thats guard). Dont use him to often, so he wont loose his tackle zone. Never use him for critical situations. Then he will do fine for you.
I would go with the second roster that Tante Käthe described. 12 players 3RR 0FF.

Sure, I'll take the 83% chance that he'll make that one dodge to get where he needs to be! Increases his movement off the line/scrum by having BT.Kheldar wrote:Break Tackle on the Troll? You want to dodge with it? Another chance of faaling down?
Just as a side note: You never know when circumstances will vindicate or trash a skill decision. I went with the majority and gave my WW (necro team) +AV instead of Dodge. No doubt, in the long run, I will appreciate the armor the most... but in the short run my WW was downed all three times with *pow*! results....
Short runs will rule the roost in Tournaments... so ya' never know....

Well I definitely wouldn't take the troll in a team that doesn't need any more muscle than it already has. I'd prefer to put a thrower on the bench as a 13th player. As stated, SH can be handy against Strip Ball and when you need to score quickly he's a useful option.

I have a troll in my league team, but I wouldn't take one for tourney use. I started out with an average team
4 BOB
4 Blitz
2 LineOrcs
1 Thrower
FF & RR's
Which is a much better team to be taking for tourney's. Especially if you give one (or more) of the blitzers catch as a skill (people won't expect Orcs to go the passing game route).

i think i'd go a totally different direction...why is nobody surprised...
4bob 32
4bli 32
2thr 14
1gob 3
1tr 100

i don't have the costs in front of me, but i'm pretty sure that's right...that gives you 12 players, more than enough for orcs which are mostly av9.
i like the troll as a roadblock, as others have said. give him guard, put him on your line, surrounded by 2 of the bobs, and your opponent isn't going anywhere near that.
i like having the 2 throwers so that somebody is always in range for picking up the ball immediately. i would never play orcs without throwers, just because they come with sure hands. plus the alternative is line orcs, and i avoid those because, frankly, they're worthless. at least for me. ymmv.
the gobbo is nice as long as you aren't playing dwarves, he can go places the other orcs won't, and can really be annoying if used agressively. plus you can always try the desperation turn 8 score if he's still around by then.

You are right. A Troll flanked by two BoBs is very menacing. And if I play against that, I will avoid these three guys like the plague. If I can get away from them, which is not that hard with elves, then the Troll and at least one BoB are potentially out of the play.
Maybe I was playing them wrong, but that was what kept happening to my Troll and his sidekick.

yes, you're right...a good elf coach will avoid that and attack the edges... where you'll have the other two bobs on the edges, with blitzers besides. it's still not real fun for them. and when they kick to you, they don't GET to run away.Cramy wrote:You are right. and against non-elves, that dominant line will really matter. against ag3 or less teams, who have a bit more trouble simply dodging off the line, you'll get some very advantageous blocks, which will help thin the ranks. against teams like dwarves, who are used to dominating the strength game, you should again have the advantage.

Yup, Trolls can also be used as Gob Lobbers for OTS which is mighty handy against the high agility teams. If you decide to try that tactic then Strong Arm makes a good Troll Skill to lower the roll needed to throw the little buggers from 3+ to 2+ Just watch that he doesn't eat your goblins!!

Break tackle on a troll in an orc team? Not IMO. If he's next to someone he can either do nothing or block. You are better off with guard so he's a more effective road block - he can move into 3 TZ to give the assist and it makes it harder to remove supporting BOBs etc.
I took a Troll in a TR110 Orc roster - but I was allowed a double so could give him block. Even without that I think he'd have done a good job with guard. Under LRB 5.0 I might be less willing since the extra 10k means the difference between upgrading a Line Orc to a blitzer/BOB or not.
