As a dwarf runner skills like Dump Off, Pass, Acurate Etc are all wasted IMO, who exactly are you going to pass it too?
Therefore you need to not let the ball go, EVER… That makes it a pretty simply choice, Block, 1st Dodge wheverpossible, but that don’t matter if you don’t have the ball. Kick Off Return should be the next skill after either of the above.
KOR does allow a dwarf team to scorce within 2 turns. (I’ve done it).
As for the other skill mentioned here, I’ll give a nod to Strip Ball, very useful on the defensive side.

Your other runner or either of your blitzers. If you have pass, then you can use your team RR on the catch roll..only slightly worse than a human team. Tho you don't have to throw alot with dwarves, you do need to pass occasionally. It helps to have someone who can do it reliably.Grogmir wrote:As a dwarf runner skills like Dump Off, Pass, Acurate Etc are all wasted IMO, who exactly are you going to pass it too?
Dump off--now there is a skill I wouldn't take for a runner..

I guess your right GorTex, if just seems well Unseemly. Besides, they all laugh at me when I get the pass ruler out!Your other runner or either of your blitzers. If you have pass, then you can use your team RR on the catch roll..only slightly worse than a human team

Seriously, I only play with 1 runner on the pitch at a time, (Need all the hitting you can get) so its pretty important he has the ball and no one else.
Just don't see a pass progession on a Runner being as useful as say, Block, Tackle, Dodge etc.
But hey I'm just a mere rookie!

The varsital your team is, the more things your opponent has to defined agianst. If you only have three guys on the field with AG3. it makes it all the more easier for your opponent to target your ball handlers.I guess your right GorTex, if just seems well Unseemly. Play withboth your Runner on the field at all teams. If you don't you just slow down an already slow dwarf team. And besides, if you can't get enough bash out of 2 slayers, 2 blitzers, and 5 longbeards, I don't think the extra longbeard is really going to be the deciding factor in the game. Although possibly if you were inducing a DR then that would bump up the level of bash.

The ability of dwarves to score in two turns is a crucial play in my book.
Of course you don't want to, ever have to do it. But many times it is just un-avoidable. Getting that pass, accurate, throwing type runner is a good buy in my opinion. Especially if you are only playing one on the pitch at once. (Which I do not recommend.)

I actually was only fielding 1 runner at a time until i got one of them Block. Then I would field them both. My opponents were really going after the one without block until he got it. Both of my runners are doing well now. They are the following:
Runner #1: Sure Hands, Block, Dump-Off, Nerves of Steel
Runner #2: Sure Hands, Block, Kick Off Return, Strip Ball
Thinking I may take Pass next on #1 and either Tackle or Pass Block next on #2. What do you guys think? I just like the way these 2 guys work on my team........

You don't need to have a pass guy to be able to score in two turns. Again I know I've done it!The ability of dwarves to score in two turns is a crucial play in my book.
When I recieve I know who will get the ball, pretending that I have options to pass to one more guy will not change that. Dwarves on average have to move 1.5 squares a turn. One Runner cannot speed up that attack. However a lack of firepower can and one ball carrier that aint carring the ball is a player wasted IMO.Play withboth your Runner on the field at all teams. If you don't you just slow down an already slow dwarf team.
On defense you need the extra movement and the all over pitch AG and then I play 2 Runners.
Is a little strange, I know, but it works for me! 1 Defeat in 20 for my Dwarves at the moment!

So have I. But pass makes the play alot easier, as to make it, your TD scorer will start on the LOS (or at most 2 off of it, assuming you use a Runner and GFI twice--or have a MA upgrade or two). Which means you have to get the ball to that player. if the Opponent kicks the ball deep, you are going to have to pass the ball--if you wish to score in two turns that is.Grogmir wrote:You don't need to have a pass guy to be able to score in two turns. As to the rest. If going with one runner on offense works for you, more power to you. Personally, I've seen too many drives where my intended ball carrier is taken off the pitch in some manner. Having all my agility 3 players on the pitch is more of an insurance in case the ball gets popped loose somehow. Any cage can be broken (cards, bad/good luck, short turns, etc) and being prepared for that has helped me out more times than not.
Granted, I do give my runners block as a 1st skill as long as I don't get a double or stat upgrade. But I don't shy from having both runners on the pitch even without block.

GorTex, All you say is right. I feel we are not as opposed as we seem.
None of what I've said is hard and fast. Sometimes i play with 2 runners sometimes with 1. As you say Block is the 1st skill most of the time anyway.
Your 2 score turn plan is exactly as mine and yes sometimes you need to pass. But and this is all choice now, I would rather have that runner with skills more often used than pass etc.
Thanks for the advice though, We are about to start a brand new league in a couple of weeks so I may well try a more passing game with my Rookie Dwarf team.
Eck I'll win a few games by killing them with Laughter alone!
