I'm 99% sure he said that when he added his catchers to his catcher-less team, his tactical options increased.
- Yes, what I meant was that I cannot see how it should increase my options as opposed to starting with Catchers. The number of options is the same, but when starting with them, you have them all to begin with :)

I am quite surprised to see this much support for the Catcher-less line up, I must admit that I had never given it any thought until now. In my eyes the Catcher is a great asset to the team, but I can see that it apparently could be done without him...

I must try that one day. Mind you, it will have to wait until I have gained back my trust in the Ogre

i always start with no catchers on humans. it lets me start with 4 blitzers to do most of the work and gives me a chance to skill up linemen. Plus after an apothecary the catchers can be bought very quickly and they skill up quick too.

100% true :D
As soon as you buy catchers (say after 3-5 games) you have same tactical options as you would have if you started with them but you now also have skilled blitzers, thrower and hopefully few skilled lineman.

Say that you get average of 2-3 TD, 1 Cas and 2-3 comp. per game. Togeher with MVP it will give you around 15 to 20 SPP per game. If you start using catcher from beggining they will make a most of TD and hog SPP from others (mostly from blitzers). In the same time they will decrease overall team AV and ST. Of course you can try to score with other players but then why take Catchers? They are basic target for blitz and easy cas spp. It is much better to take them when other players can provide adequate support to them.

Same thing for Ogre - I also dont have luck with them but they contibute by their presence. Lot of players like to crowd players around and try to knock him down. Lot of players like to foul them. They just lose valuable time and tie up their players. Bad thing is if you opponent just delegate one player as Ogre "plaything" and ignore him for the rest of game.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I chose to go with:

2 Catchers
1 Thrower
4 Blitzers
5 Linemen

3 RR
3 FF

BUT I will keep your advise in mind, and try to keep my Catchers from hogging the SPPs and instead make some frisky plays with the Linemen and Blitzers. The Catchers will have to keep the opposition at bay then

I buy that 100%. And I don't have any faith in my Ogre... but hopefully the opposition doesn't know that, and spends a lot of effort going after him!
