The corollary to what Warpstone is saying is: you should receive when you think you can win on your opening turn.

Some teams, when missing key players, become really vulnerable on the LOS. Teams that can't field more than 11 are also vulnerable to teams with lots of MB or a Chainsaw or both, especially if the hitty team has more than 12 or so players, and ideally an Apothecary and good armor. When you find that situation, it changes everything. But really, it doesn't make a huge difference.

Good point, though I generally find that higher TV opponents tend have enough skills to avoid catastrophe on the opening turn. The division Gimli plays in is for teams that have atleast one season under their belt, so TVs are easily over 200+ for each match. You probably shouldn't bank on delivering opening turn killer blows against teams that have both depth and skill across the board (even if they are AV7).

By all means, when playing with recently started teams or against a coach who will try to go toe to toe with you despite having less armour: take the ball and bash away :)
