Against most teams players with dodge & Av7 are harder to hurt than those with Av8. Add in that they are more mobile and likely to be given block or wrestle and you've a very effective wall against anyone except dwarves.

Even against a Dwarf or Chaos Dwarf team there will be 5 or 6 players without Tackle (early on at least). The Amazons can run rings round these players.

Amazons can do well in tourney because they can get 4 blodging guarders easily! Norse have guard access on frenziers, that's a big difference!

As a general rule of thumb I find that amazons are very effective in lower level leagues. As a league progresses however they slowly become more and more "average" as the opposition begin to add tackle to their teams, particularly on blitzers.

Expect to do really well in the1300-1500 or so TV range, but once teams start reaching the 1650+ range be prepared to meet some serious tackle, particularly if news has got around about your roster full of blodge :P

QFT,

4 Blodging Guarders are the reason for Amazons near the top of the NAF leagues and Norse not. Long term they just start dying.

I'm agree with those that dislike Zon's. To uniform, nothing special, not very balanced on a game by game basis and blodging guarders are a nightmare in tournis.

I know the LRB review didn't take into account tournis - but still think that was a mistake.

Thanks for the replies! It seems I might have my new team picked out for the next tourney! :P

Like I said, I have seen some very good coaches using amazons, and never seem to do very well, whereas the norse are the killer Canadian team.

Maybe it's time for a change!

Hi Craig,
over the years I've hosted 20 tournaments. Amazons have never done well here either. And some good coaches have tried.

<sigh> So much for my hopes! :P

Maybe amazons is one of those teams that works really well for some teams, but not for others. Kinda like Nurgle for me. Most people thing it's a joke team, but it is the only one I have a decent record with!

I think there is more than a little truth to the this. Finding the "right fit" in terms of play style is just as important as finding a good team. I found that with Wargames, CCGs, MMOs, the works.

my Amazon team arrived today. looks better in the metal than on the GW site. should get a couple of games with them over the next few days. See how they play on the field rather than in my head.

Im hoping to develop a medium/fast throwing team, with cheap re-rolls, i'll develop the thrower with safe pass, hail mary and the catcher with diving catch and sure feet to almost guarantee 8MA for the quick TD. 4 blitzers to protect the catcher.

ShriekBob plays nurgle and i want to throw over the Disturbing Presence, it looks really cool in my mind. all these rotters and pestigor jumping for an out-of-reach ball.

Mebby not the best development strategy but when i pull it off... it'll rock!!

As long as you acknowledge the first part of this statement, Amazons are really do best as a grindy running team.

You try any kind of passing game against a Nurgle team and you are playing right into their hands!

Well i'm hoping to play over their hands, i'm thinking if I can get over the 7 squares of Dist' Pres', I should be able to leave 'em standing, even better if i draw him fairly deep into my half first. Sure it'll be the long pass but thats why I want Safe Pass, if I don't hit the re-roll 5+, I can try again next turn.
