Discuss Fantasy football-style board games - GW's Blood Bowl, Impact!'s Elfball, Privateer Press' Grind, Heresy's Deathball, etc. THIS IS NOT AN NFL FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE!
I think a slight majority of coaches would, in a league choose to lose 4-0 but suffer no perms and gets some spp’s themselves over winning 4-0 but having their team wrecked.
I think there is a lot to this - I've argued before that the rules should be changed to make it harder to functionally kill teams.
But I can't change the desire for people to keep their players alive over winning.
Ironically, if a league builds up uber-claw Chaos the best thing for it is for many players to switch to elves...but it seems in practice you'll see a move towards bash...
Actually in that environment I would go for one of three teams, all min maxed to keep TV as low as possible to get key inducements (apoths, good stars etc). Amazons to try and win and at least make them 'waste' skill choices on tackle. Norse to play a replaceable bash team. Or Dwarves for survivability and more importantly players that are good to go straight out of the box. Idea with the latter two teams is to kill key opposing stars to allow me to switch to a different team.
Alternatively I would go for Goblins and just play silly buggers.
I think you've got to think longer-term still. Eventually, people will realize the long-term power of lightweight teams. Skaven who maintain a list of 3-4 really great players can afford to be surrounded by rookies and journeymen... and Fezglitch + Wizard most of the time. And if they die, rebuilding them is actually pretty easy.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.
I wonder if the hive mind mentality of how to build a team is what is at fault here.
Heavy bash? Wrestle, Dodge, Fend, maybe some dauntless for the wimpy guys.
I'm trying to have fun in a league with some CDs, my crazy plan is all CDs get Frenzy. Mainly for fun. MB, Frenzy, Guard, Stand firm. I would like to win but I'm not going down the spam guard route straight away. Will have Mino with Guard to help.
Reason:''
The Scrumpers (Wood Elf)
Gitmo (Chaos Dwarves)
Sheik Ya Bouti (Khemri)
Fast and Furry (Skaven)
The Disposables (Halflings)
Young Mutants Chaos Association (Chaos)
In our league there are a plethora of races. Bashy teams don't tend to win many championships in our league either. Hence more agile and "Hybrid" teams get used. Chaos isn't used as much as it is online. I think when used by experienced coaches, the bashy teams get exposed and turnovers are frequent. Even if the team is an underpopulated agile team at the end, the damage has been done. Now I'm referring to an average of 200 TR teams.
Every league is different. It depends on the calibre of the coaches when talking long term strategy. Someone suggested a cap, and I think they are wrong. Guys should be allowed to play what they want. Let them have fun. If you want a wider variety of teams start by leading and take an Elf type team. Necros are on the Bashy side of the Hybrid spectrum, because they tend to bash more than Agilitate (I know it's not a word.) Fight fire with water not more fire. But have fun, it builds the league.

One interesting thing to note, of the 12 finals slots, 3 coaches have taken up 9 of them. Note that this is a league that has had 30-36 coaches for most seasons (only 24 for this season starting up).
The league has two well developed Chaos teams. I've eliminated one of them from the playoffs four straight seasons, and the other fell to Khemri in S5 and me in S6, both times in the semis. They won every game in the regular season though - a first time in our league (10 game seasons). We'd had a few undefeated teams with ties before...
Hmm. I wouldn't call the contenders a bash trend, either. I think the thing to draw from here is primarily one thing: the better players in a league will dominate the championships. That may be rather obvious, but it bears keeping in mind when contemplating the dynamics of any league. What are the best coaches using? People may come to an acceptance with the fact that they tend to lose to the better players, but they will still evaluate their performance against the second tier. Does bash tend to dominate in the second tier as the league matures? If so, they will still feel there is too much bash even if the winners don't really show that same trend, because they are playing on a level of their own.
