I wouldn't run at all, but especially against teams like Dwarves. Easy tactics to beat the Fat Boys are as follows;
1. Score as quickly as possible
2. Use your blitzers, and if you have them WE's, to hit their ball carrier.
The only thing to watch out for with Dwarves is that there could be a lot of Guard skills, but go for it anyway, fortune favours the brave.
Definately buy an apothecary as soon as possible.
I will be surprised if you lose, Dwarves are so beneath DE's they are barely worth considering, eh Long Fang?

Well they sure do hurtHaar wrote:(failed GFI roll to hit the endzone, even with a reroll).

but your not the only one who gets them

Sounds like you roughly know the running style,Blitz a hole and pour through it, try more players, Stack heavily on the side you want to go down with my wood Elves I usually get 6 + in there,But they are quicker.
On defence just wait until you spot a mistake. If against slow teams leave 1-3 players on the front of the cage to stop it from moving, the rest go for the sides.
Erm Dwarves next, Good luck, just run round them. And go for the runners and slayers first, without them he should find it difficult.

I am a rookie to BB too and play a HE team. A bit less hitting power and a bit more speed, but roughly the same as DE's.
One thing I have noticed in my first five games is that I usually end up making the break through in the opposite side from where i started trying. I lost three of my first four games but have started using this new tactics deliberatly and are currently up 2-0 in turn 6 of the first half in my fifth game.
Just set up heavily to one side but keep two/three players as a loose screen on the other side, and two dodging away from the LOS as a loose screen in the center. Keep the ball carrier deep on your own half and blitz through on the side you set up heavy. The opponent will keep tie up your players on the "weak side" with an equal number of players, and with a blitz you can clear one of your guys so that he can get the ball. Then you run through and normally two players will be enough to screen the ball carrier because all the opposing players have rushed to the other side. (you put your blityzers there as bait while your lineelfs on the other side do the real work - they are perfectly capable of this).
This is normally a three turn scoring tactics, but if you are lucky and the opponent is not carefull you may score in two.
Remember you can move the ball very fare by the "run - handover - run - quick pass - run" tactics, so maybe even put your ball carrier to the side where you set up heavy.

Thanks for all the help. I unwittingly stumbled on that same running play Rupert was talking about in my last match (Dark Elves vs Dark Elves). I bound up most of everybody on one side of the pitch, then did the run - handoff - run - pass - run for the score. Had to make a bunch of rolls to do it, but it was okay, all 2+ rolls and I had some rerolls (guys with dodge, a TRR, etc).
My game against the dwarfs did not go that well. He got the ref in turn one of the half, and by halftime I had 6 players on the pitch. Some mediocre play on my part ended up with him winning 3-0 (and killing one of my blitzers!) Live and learn. The DE are getting better, or I'm getting better at them. Having access to dodge rules.
