If you want him to see his 6th skills, just go for Dodge : RO is the most fragile Big Guy in the game. Plus, combined with Break Tackle, he will go wherever you want.
Of course, Claw is nice too, but you'll get a HUGE target upon his head.

Since when does a RO not have a target on his head?! I don't understand the "don't give him Claw because your opponent will be more scared of him" argument. He'll be scared for a reason ... because the RO will be a monster.

Don't get me wrong, Claw is, indeed, a very good choice, IMHO the best for short-term issues.Joemanji wrote:Since when does a RO not have a target on his head?! Now, since wylder specificly mentionned he wants his RO to last, Dodge IS the best choice for him : which will provide him a very interresting tactical advantage, especially on the long-term.

I usually find Claw more useful for a Blitzer... he moves better, and with Skaven speed you could get 2 block dice almost everywhere in the field. If your opponent uses cheap units around RO, it could became very difficult to reach an AV9+ target (mandatory target for a mighty claw combo)...
Also Jump Up is a good choice, if you have problem in making him stand up (Wild animal need 4+ to stand up, but only 2+ to block, and jump up give a block with a 3+ roll: RO up, and without using your blitz)...

I would suppose a lot of this depends on the other teams in the league. Most notably if there are a lot of dwarf teams out there, then Dodge is next to useless, and Claw would be far more beneficial!Rhyoth wrote:If you want him to see his 6th skills, just go for Dodge : RO is the most fragile Big Guy in the game. If this is cyanide... dodge will keep you alive a little longer, but I still stand by pro for a few reasons.
Because of the game engine, I believe break tackle is used before dodge. That makes dodge a little less valuable for positioning, since the most obvious use will be the RO being marked, and needing to bust a cage. Instead of dodging away from the mark, then breaking tackle into the cage, he'll do the reverse, probably to disastrous results. (still hate that you have no control over things like that).
Pro gets you out of sticky situations by letting to move the RO around much more freely to mark people, and do other non-blitzy things that you may need. Yes, he's kinda fragile as far as a big guy goes, so I like that pro to counter the wild animal so I can move him to safety. I wince every time my turn ends and the RO is next to some bruisers. Sure, it's possible your opponent can still hunt him down, but a developed skaven team should have him hunting gutter runners, or killing machine stormvermin before committing that much str to the RO.
Dodge isn't bad at all, either is claw. I just like Pro. I like block more, but you've already got it covered. *grin*

Pro is growing on me. Maybe it's watching my Snow Troll spend a quarter of the game on his back unable to roll a 4. Plus, Pro/Block/Frenzy is a knockdown machine.
Still, it's hard not to like Claws against any team except Wood Elves.

I am also becoming a bigger fan of pro. I had it on one of my BGs and it was great. For me I really had to experience it to fully appreciate it (I had been hearing it for long enough!)
You have the same chance for a RR for the BG without ever having to sacrafice a Team RR. It's great!

My slogan: "Pro is the way to go"
It rhymes.
But other than that, it makes the rat ogre more reliable. I think with the reliability, he'll do more for the cas department than the claw will.

Norse: Ulfs & Snowtroll
Pro elves: The blitzers
Goblins: The stars & Trolls
Flings: The stars & Trees.
Of your list only the amazons are claw immune.. Losing even 1 troll or tree is disastrous for flings & goblins, for instance.

This. I thought it was obvious. Amazons are immune to Claw, yes. Trees on Wood Elves are optional, but if a team uses one.... Some Norse teams don't get great mileage from their Ulfs, but these same teams need their ST all the more, and STs with Block are uncommon, so this guy is great for taking them down as long as you take the first shot. Claw certainly isn't optimal vs. Pro Elves, but it's hardly worthless, especially for Blitzer-dependent PE teams.Carnis wrote:Skaven: The blitzers & ROCybertroll wrote:and Skaven. And Amazons. Re: Block Rat Ogre rolls 5+5 - help?
If anyone is interested, I took dodge.
An interesting side effect that I hadn't really counted on is that when my back is to the wall and I'm out of rerolls, his 75% (ignoring W.A.) chance of dodging clear and blitzing is almost as much of a benefit as the reduced knockdowns. It also suits the way that I play, since having a reliable rat ogre blitz is much more my style than trying to clear the pitch of opponents.
I'm hoping desperately for a third double
so that I can take claw. However, I have a feeling that this is being greedy. I'm looking forward to break tackle next.

There once was a big guy with Block
Rolled doubles again -- what a jock!
Tents, Claw or Pro: which way to go?
He took Dodge, and that ends all this talk.
