Saurus first skill: Block vs Mighty Blow

Ok, I'm going to start experimenting with rosters for my LGS spring league. It's a 12 week league with playoffs, 1 million to start, re-sets every season.

Last season I REALLY screwed up the skill choices for my Saurus, something I'd like to avoid in my second season

I'm thinking that I may take Mighty Blow for a first Saurus skill rather than Block, just for the fact that Saurus advance SOOOOOOO slowly, and maybe Mighty Blow will help generate a few more casualties?

I'm also thinking of developing a 'blitzer' saurus by giving him Break Tackle as a first skill.

Thoughts?

If not block then break tackle is ok. But my Mighty Blow in my oppinion is not a good choice for starting saurus. Block gives them the reliability you need.

You forgot one: Guard!

With the usual cage play of the lizards with a STR2 skink in the center of the cage, they are very vulnerable to leaping cagebreakers or even strip-ball-stunties. a couple of guards in the cage players turn that around perfectly.

So i'd go 2 Block, 2 Guard, 2 Break Tackle. within 12+playoff games it's hardly likely to get a Saurus to his second skill anyway, with MB or without.

I won't do the match here, but having block also gives you more casulties, as you get more opponents down and are less likely to produce a turnover.

Tackle is also an option against dodgy teams, but I'd still go for block, because of th LOS. He's harder to get down! :smoking:

I tried Guard as the first skill for my Saurus last season, it was nice for tying up strength teams, but agility teams would just 'mark' them with a cannon fodder lineman, and since I couldn't dodge away, they'd be tied up for several turns.

I'll probably go with Block for my first couple Saurus, it seems like it will have the most 'utility' for my team, and as Tim said, 2 skill Saurus players in a 12 game league isn't too likely :-?

I like the idea of 2 Guard, 2 Block, 2 Break Tackle...in my first league I gave all the Saurus the same skill sets, which really really limited my options.

Thanks for the input!

Go break tackle.
You need one of your ST4 guys to be able to dodge out a TZ to blitz and make a hole in your opponent's defense for your skinks.

I have a liz team (8 games old 5w 1d 2l)
Here are my saurii
Guard
Block
Break Tackle
Leader
-1AV :-?
Break Tackle

The first got Leader for my Krox and his teammates in general, then I took Guard before break tackle, break tackle, block. In retrospect I should have taken BT before...

Mix it up... a Break Tackle saurus is useful, a Block saurus is reliable etc... you'll need some of each.

I'll probably mix it up a bit. I'm trying out a new starting roster that includes a Krox......I think he is pretty overpriced, but I LOVE the miniature, so what else can I do? :D

I did get a Saurus with Break Tackle last season....a M6/S4/AV9 that dodges on a 2 is mighty sweet!

Definitely mix up your skill choices on the Sauri. You MUST have 1-2 with break tackle to use as blitzers or else you will (as you've experienced) get locked down with linemen. After that, a mix of block and guard will give you the flexibility you don't have with a rookie team (or a team using parallel progressions).

Take Block for the first two Sauri, it will save you a lot of RR.
Break Tackle, Guard and Tackle are all good choices for later, depending on which teams you are playing against.
