Thoughts about these chaos dwarves, anyone?

Ok, first of all, here's the team:

3x CDB +guard
3x CDB unskilled

HobGob +block
HobGob +block, kick
HobGob +dirty player
HobGob +sure hands
HobGob unskilled

Troll +piling on

Bull +block
Bull +block -MA(aging)

4RR, 9FF, Apoth, 110k cash

First thing: As soon as I got the last missing 20k, that bull will get replaced.

We are 7 games into the season, [brag] I have won 6 and tied the 7th [/brag]. We will have five more games, then a small tourney and the teams carry on into next season, so still waaay to go with these guys! :)

As for skill progression:

CDBs is easy, first guard, then MB, doubles will be stand firm, except for the first double, which will be leader.

Troll will get guard, then (probably way later :)) block. Actually, I'm not too happy about choosing PO first, somehow got confused wiht the new rules, but, hey, what the heck. Perhaps, I'll scrap him, but not sure though.

HobGobs will be a mix of block, tackle, dirty player and sure hands, as I see fit. Have I forgotten anything important? Doubles: Guard.

Bulls will be block, tackle, break tackle, sure hands, perhaps strip ball or guard. Any suggestions on order?

This is how I plan to improve my team. Can you spot any flaws?

BCs I'd take Break Tackle 1st - stopping them getting marked out of the game is pretty vital if you want them to be able to move around. Giving the 1st one to get Break Tackle strip ball next is a good idea IMO.

The Troll I'd give Block instead of Guard 1st. Its a better compliment to Piling on and makes him more reliable. With all the CDs you ought to have plenty of guard anyway.

Maybe a silly idea, but how about pass on a hobgoblin. Probably only for a player who already has sure hands or one who rolls a double on the first skill. It could be useful for receiving deep kicks, or for lobbing a ball out of a stalled cage.

@ian:
Well, I really had a hard time deciding between block and guard. The reason I finally chose guard is the following: On defense, I only place the troll flanked by a dwarf on each side. With the troll having guard, my opponent will have difficulties getting 2 dice blocks on the flanking dwarves without moving other players in my half for assists. Additionally, I'll have my other dwarves only one row back (despite quicksnap chances), so getting those assists is even more difficult for them.

Perhaps I should have mentioned, that my opponents teams are high, wood and pro elves, skaven, norse and orcs. 'cept for orcs and norse, noone is bashy in any way. :)

@al:
Sorry, I forgot to mention, that my sure hands hobbo will get pass on a double. :) I really had that in mind, even before reading your post. Sorry.

Maybe put a CD guarding in the middle with the Troll on one side and another guarding CD on the other.

Um ... sometimes the easiest solutions are the best ... :) Didn't even think about this. Thanks!

I agree with Ian. Block on the Troll and get breaktackle on a Bull ASAP. At least one, preferably both. The bulls are your mobility, but if they're chained to an opposing linemen then you're a dwarf team forced to use a bunch of crappy hobbos.

And I particularly like the "unbalanced line". You can even use it to psyche out your opponent a bit if handled right.

Well, consider Ian´s comment agreed to and incorporated into my further game plan. That includes the troll getting block next.

As for the bulls: As I´m gonna get a new bull anyway, Ill try BT first. The other bull will perhaps get tackle next, just so that I can see, how it compares to each other. After all, this is my first chaos dwarf team and I´d like to try a few things to see, how they develop in our league environment. :)

I'm with ian here
One of my BC has Block + Strip Ball, the other one goes for Break Tackle + Block .. i'm thinking about Sure Hands to the BT one too ...

For the Troll, i considered Block to be the first thing to get, and got Guard as the second skill, (but that's because i have other 4 CD with Guard so the line is really compact now). Praying for some doubles on him to get Pro.

My hobbos are similar to yours, Fronko. Block and Tackle, one or two with Sure Hands, and the all-time-favourite Dirty Player. A kick maybe, just maybe .. They are useless carnage to get the ball to my BC or spread some tackle zones around. I also try to put some pressure over the sides with them sometimes ...

Ok, now, that the discussion has somewhat died, let's pop something new in:

One game later, one of the unskilled CDBs levels-up and rolls 5+6. Take the agility or guard nevertheless?

My first thought was, hey, now I got an armour9 ball carrier with instant block. Cool!. Then, on second thought, I found him to be way too slow to really make for a TD scorer.

Which again some time later I considered completely stupid, as my cage moves 4 squares anyway, as it mostly consists of dwarves anyway. So I really wouldn't lose much speed at all.

Now, I'm truely unsure about what to do. On the one hand, the ball appears to be safer on the dwarf and as he's gone make a few TDs he'll also be closer to his next skill (which probably would be sure hands).

And it also opens up a few tactical options as I can keep him close to the LOS on a kick off and a hobgob further in the back, and whoever ends up closer to he ball picks it up. Or the gobboe picks it up and hands it over to the dwarf. Hmmm ... might offer a few other goodies too.

And then again there is this nagging feeling the low speed might hurt in some games ...

Haaaargh, I guess, I'm taking this too serious!!! :)

Any comments?
