Dragon Warrior

I have played the High Elves for a couple of years. Without much success I am afraid.

Now I am wondering what skills other High Elves coaches choose for their Dragon Warriors. I used to go for Block, Dodge, Side Step but for the current leage I tried Block, Leap instead (the wardancers have always been annoying with their leap skill). I was fairly successful for a couple of games but of course in two matches one died and the other one got a niggling (my apothecary did not fulfill his duties). With the leap skill the opponents had to play more defensively (which was good) but with block and leap my blitzers got a lot of punishment. I am now thinking I should go for Block, Dodge and sidestep with my new blitzer as I used to.

What do you think?

Block,dodge I definately agree with. I think after that it comes down to the roll you want your blitzer to take in the team. Under 3rd edition I liked mine to have Dauntless(harder now), but strip ball and pass block are valuable. Laters DD.

Why not block, dodge, then leap? Or Block, dodge, tackle?

The 2 in our league are
Block,dodge,dauntless
and
Block,dodge,Leap,AG5 :evil:
The second is a real pain in the.. :roll: :wink:

yup...ive got two of those block, dodge, leap ag5 dragon warriors (unfortuately not on the same team)

one of them even got a movement increase :D

anyways...always go for dodge first (applies to all elves) because it both helps you to NOT get knocked over and to avoid being in opponents tacklezones...

the third skill (block, dodge, ...) depends on what you get:
stat increase: ...well duh!
double: stand firm, dump off, frenzy, guard, dauntless, pro
normal: catch, nerves of steel, strip ball, leap, side step...

doesnt have to be in this order of course...and my memory tells me that this list is not complete...but you should get the idea.

I have coached a new High Elf team to an 11-2 record in a pretty competitive league.

My advice on skill choices for Dragon Warriors?

They come with Block, so my skill choices would be:
1) Dodge
2) Tackle
3) Diving Tackle or Leap or perhaps Strip Ball

I think the way to win consistently with High Elves is to be opportunistic and force turnovers. YOu have easy access to Diving Tackle (great skill!) and you also can have a decent shot at INTs with some passblockers.

I've just started a new HE team and my plan with the Dragon Warriors is to go Block, Dodge, Shadowing, Side Step. Then they only need to get next to a ball carrier to cause all sorts of problems for the opponent in the next turn.

I was going to combine this with a pair of Pass Blocking Lion Warriors (Catch, Pass Block, Dodge, Block) to get all those lovely interceptions, and shutting down any passing game - forcing my opponent to smash through the line. However there is only 1 other AG team in the league so it can wait until the team has developed some.

Mostly correct ... need doubles to get Nerves of Steel, you don't need doubles to get Pro, and as was previously mentioned Dragon Warriors can never get Stand Firm.

They come with Block, 7 3 4 8. There are all kinds of nifty combinations:

Tackle, Shadowing, Pass Block - The ultimate defensive player. He can tail a player as he runs to get open and then use Pass Block to intercept if he loses the Shadowing roll.

Leap, Pro, Strip Ball - Wannabe Wardancer, anyone?

mö...the skill thingy has been changed too much lately.

but, as i said...you get the idea. it all depends on what you want the player to do. you have to create a solid team which has both a general range of skills as well as specialized skill players which are supposed to perform certain roles that will lead to your victory.

My rookie Dragon Warrior just received his first skill and his AG went up. I was wondering what to take next dodge or leap? The rest of my team consist of rookie linemen.
Ag5 dragon warriors are very nice.. I have one with block, dodge, +ag and strip ball which I find to be a good combination. I think the dodge is essential though.

My next skill will probably be sure hands as it helps preserve TRRs when you have to pick up the ball in 3 TZs (which is definately doable at 4+)...

It partly depends on the role you want him to fill.

Leap is going to allow you to blitz into cages like a war dancer - this is very useful ability and may help stretch your opponents defence.

Dodge is an all round skill that helps mobility and keeps you on your feet.

Sure Hands gives you a reliable pickup player - 2+ in 1 TZ with a reroll is pretty useful.

What you want to ensure is that he doesn't suck up all your SPPs because whatever you give him he's a big target.

When I developed my High Elf team, I thought a lot about the same stuff and came to the conclusion that considering I could get 4 Lion Warriors (a great catcher with ST3), my Dragon Warriors should be groomed as defensive specialist.

On offense I find that my 4 Lion Warriors with Block, dodge, AG increases, tackle and nerves of steel are enough to blitz through and form a pocket around the ball carrier. They can in other words hold their own.

My two Dragon Warriors I give dodge as a first skill. This makes sure that they don't go down that easily. Next they should get tackle to be able to blitz down those pesky catchers. Third skill should be strip ball on one and leap on the other so you have some options when defending. Doubles I would spend on Guard or Mighty Blow. Guard because it is - in my opinion - one of the best skills in the game, especially for elf teams, and Mighty Blow because High Elf teams seriously lack on players, who can do some damage.
