the lowdown on my norse team

Post by pseudo_draconic »

im bored so i thought id start a thread about my norse team

first the league : W.elves, D.elves, Dwarves, C.dwarves, Orcs, Halflings, Goblins and my Norse team

the Midgard Ice Dragons

TR 162, 5W 2D 1L, 9 cas for 10 against, 15 td's for 5 against (4 winning shutouts in a row :o ), 1 asistant coach , 3 re-rolls and 12 fan-factor

2 throwers (1 rookie and 1 with +1ma)
4 blitzers (2 piling-on , 1 gaurd , 1 sidestep)
2 catchers (both dodge-surefeet)
8 linemen (one with +1 ma who is missing next game, rest rookie)

im pretty impressed so far as this team came into the league a little bit late so was fighting against higher tr for its opening games, and now quite a few linemen are nearing there first skill roll .... cant wait for kick

i would just like to say what a great team norse is to play, ive not been having much luck with the bashing game so ive gone for a more open reactive play style that has payed off in my td difference :P

this team has just qualified for the semi finals in the little tournament we are holding and my opponent is a dwarven team (6 positionals 8 longbeards couple of gaurds few mighty blow, lower tr) this is the only team to beat me in the league so far

any advice would be appreciated

Oooh bugger ... Dwarfs are such a tough opponent for Norse, because they can match your main advantage (Block on everyone), and have two points more AV where it counts. HUGE difference.

You have to make the most of your strengths ... these are your higher MV, and 4 Jump Up bliters. +1 MV is so so so very useful for a Norse team - and you have it twice! Your Side Step-ing blitzer could be your key man in this game. Make sure he always gets the chance to hitting back in your turn (AV rolls permitting).

Best of luck!

I thought Dwarves are tough opponents against almost every other team. 8)

Only slow opponents.
Fast teams like Skaven or WE will simply overrun a dwarven team

once again im bored so here is another bracing dose of norse

its looking like im going to be hard pressed against these dwarves but its not as if i dont stand a chance, i just hope it dosent turn into one of those games where the dice decide that "one" is the magic number.

i was thinking about what skills to give my linemen when they start picking up star player rolls (4 of them are close to rolls). one guy is going going to get kick, but after that im not sure. i suppose i should get a couple of tacklers and a couple of dirty players, using any doubles to pick up gaurd, but im not sure about the tacklers maybe they wont be needed in this league (havent really felt i needed them so far)

for the blitzers i think the pilingon guys will be getting mighty blow, the gaurd guy will probs get strip ball and the sidestep guy will probs get gaurd, any doubles will be spent on sidestep (it just seems better than stand firm)

i got surefeet for the catchers simply because i found myself consistantly going for it with them i think that maybe sidestep will be best for them next but im highly tempted by leap even though it of limited use with ag3.

the throwers will be getting sure hands, in everygame i seem to suffer at least one turnover trying to get the ball after a kickoff.

one regret is taking piling on before mighty blow, the re-roll piling on seems to be of little use against high av teams and i have a feeling that any dirty players in the league will be rubbing there hands together and laughing with glee (in true evil villan style)

well im all typed out for now, maybe ill post about my offensive and defensive aligments and tactics later on....... all depends how tedious today can get

A few thoughts:
Tackle on linemen will be needed sooner or later. Even though, it is only wood elves and dark elves with "natural" dodgers, even the other opponents might pick it up on the key players eventually. A tackler for the right situation will always be of good use.

Dirty player is a must (maybe even 2?), but also think about shadowing. Don't laugh, there seem to be a number of guys which are MA 6 or slower and in all those cases you have an advantage for the roll! Actually, except for the woodies, EVERYONE in that league has MA 6 players (or slower).

The blitzer skills you mentioned seem quite reasonable.

And yeah, I'm a fan of sidestep, too. :)

nice idea Fronko :D

i had just passed straight over shadowing when looking through the skills but it looks like it could be pretty useful in this league.

I took it on a few guys myself and was surprised how well it worked out on MA6 players. Of course, it will never work, when it really has to, but I guess that is just nuffle screwing you! :)

well i beat the dwarf team, was a hard game was 1-1 at half time and i was recieving in the 2nd. i put in a score in about 4 turns and then started to panic as i had left them enough time to equalize, luckily for me there was a riot leaving him only a couple of turns left :P

so i got to the final where i was facing a wood elf team (which is top of the league) our tr was pretty even (about 175). i got beat but it was a really good game, was a close run thing all the way, finished 2-1 to the woodies.

my team now has an ogre :D not many skill advances though, one lineman got gaurd and another got a MA+ , that makes 3 MA+ guys for this team, but still no sure hands or kick :(

nothing left to buy for this team, so i guess im saving up for re-rolls and replacement players now hopefully i can keep tr pretty low , its 181 after the final.
