Why not take 3 CW for a starting chaos team?
Hm i looked at the starting teams and i figured out that no one takes 3 CW at the start. So why? The experience in my league was that st 4 is very strong. And the beastmen are really weak at the beginning. I did 3 test games with my chaos team like the official starter from here. with one cw rest beasties and so on... And they were ripped into pieces from orks, humans, nippones cause of lack of the block skill.
And i tried a 3 CW
8 BM
8 FF
2 RR
The survive longer and they bash teams far better. So why only take 1 CW. Because of the RR or the Apo or what?

Well, maybe it's because your calculation is not correct ?
3 Chaos Warriors for 100.000 gp each = 300.000
9 Beastmen for 60.000 gp each = 540.000
8 Fan Factor = 80.000
2 Re-Rolls for 70.000 each = 140.000
Total = 1.060.000
With one BM less it would work ...

Mainly because of the rerolls.
Chaos lacks block, AG4 and sure hands, and therefore requires a lot of rerolls in order to function properly.
Chaos rerolls are expensive to buy later on when the price doubles.
Chaos is not meant to be strong in the beginning of a league, but they can grow to a terrifying team later on with lots of block, guard and mighty blow adding in some claws and fangs to spice things up.

I tried it out and it worked quite fine for me.
But you should't not expect much from a Chaos team for your first games.
Chaos develops strong with more TR and when you reached a TR of 200 you should have a strong team with some mutations.
For a short league I don't want to play Chaos but if your league is constructed for a long term or several seasons you should have a lot of fun with your team.

The 3 CW, 8 BM, 8 FF and 2 RR roster is the one I've used, as well as encountered, the most often.
However, as I adapted my style, I decided to go for the 4 CW, 7 BM, 4 FF and 2 RR version. Why? Because I rely very heavily on the CWs for my tactic, and it has paid off a lot more.
And since BM are (reasonably) cheap to replace, I am not that much reliant on money as an elven team would be, hence the low fan factor.
As to the lack of rerolls, again, I play in a way to actually make me throw the least rolls possible (a tackle zone based type of game), so I can handle that.
Yet, I still would not recommend chaos for a short term league either - you'll just be too likely to lose matches in the beginning until you gain at least 6-8 skills in your team, and that stage will be very slow to reach...
