Treemen on a wood elf team
As my wood elf team is getting better, and my roster is starting to fill up, i was wondering, is it worth the 110k to get a treeman?
despite the 50% chance he wont show up for the first half, he could absorb plenty of hits on the front line, and leave only 2 free hits on av7 elfs when i am kicking off. and it might keep my opponent occupied enough to let some of my other guys slip through, if he has about 4 guys surrounding my tree, just to keep him down.
so, it is worth it?

well, i actually think take root (on wood elfs, NOT on halflings) is actually a not so bad negatrait. wood elves are certainly capable of dominating without the tree, especially if they recieve in the first half when the tree has taken root, so he is not needed as badly on the LOS to absorb hits. Once he is in the game, hes there for good. There is no chance that on a critical play he will roll a 1, lose the declared blitz, and lose his tackle zone, as on ogres or trolls. the difficulty getting back up can be a problem though...
once i get my last catcher, ill probably get a tree, unless someone can convince me otherwise

With that spare 100k, should i get a catcher, a thrower, another re-roll, or save for that tree? I was planning on waiting until all my lineelves had at least one skill before getting the thrower, but atfer all the missed or fumbles passes ive had recently, i was thinking that pass skill might come in handy, and only two of them have not skilled up yet, two of which i can keep off the field until i take some injuries.

If you like 2 take the Treeman. He can be a great help for a woodelf team. Take root is not that hard for WE. But playing against Halflings where 2 Treeman took roots - its just fun 2 play

I more than strongly recommend that you get your third reroll. If I were you, I would buy nothing else but rerolls until I'd get four of them. Rerolls are even more important when the minority of your players have dodge. Moreover, since nobody has any ball-handling skills, you are still very limited in the number of touchdowns you can score.
Of course, if you (I hope not) lose any players on the way, then replace them before getting the fourth reroll.
And once you get it, I'd suggest you get yourself a thrower, get a thrid catcher (assuming you like those guys), possibly a second thrower, and only then, a treeman.
The treeman should only be bought last not only because of its unreliability, but also because he'll seriously harm the fast game of your team unless everyone else is sufficiently developed. By that, I mean that the more mobile your players get, the harder it is for your opponent to simply ignore your treeman and just go for your other players. Indeed, if your players are everywhere on the pitch, your opponent won't know where to focus, and therefore can more easily find himself trapped by your treeman.

I did have a tree, then it aged third skill and nigged, after a particulary nasty games in which i picked up 3 perm injuries on position players, 2 nig 1 -s and the tree aged nig..
So now my theory for woddoies is.
2 dancers 4 catchers and liners, maybe a throwers.
That way you can rapidly turn over players and cope with aging.

I personally try to take the tree relatively early on. He's like a second apothecary, if your opponents are foolish enough to focus on him.
I can't count the number of times I've had people devote half their team to bringing down and fouling out my treeman. Each and every time I smiled... otherwise all those hits would have been on my expensive, av7 elves!
He's a great damage sponge so long as you always remember to use him as such. Just throw him in the middle of a couple of bad guys (feel free to try to dodge into TZs with stand firm!) and watch them butt their heads up against him while you have free reign of the field. Might not work for everyone but it frequently works for me.
And as to zy's point, one could also argue that losing the tree to aging just means that you only have a few games to deal with those nasty injuries on your positionals rather than all of your games...

Still suprises me that players who should know better continue to focus on
taking out the treeman -- some of them are even aware that they shouldnt but continue to do so.......
This is something the wood elf coach should encourage by a bit of gentle taunting -- worked for me in the past

Well, last game vs dark elves was kinda disasterous. Three casualties against, one death and two niggles. used the apothecary on the dead guy, bu5t still had two miss game/niggle linemen, and one line elf just missing the game with no lasting injury. I retiired the two nigglers, since they were skillless anyway, one of em had 0 spp, but now i have only 10 guys for the next game.
After that game, i think i am definietly taking a thrower, since i only lost 3-2 because of two failed quick passes that would have most likely resulted in touchdowns, which has happened to me in the last three straight games (assuming my catcher didnt fail both catch rolls), so i think i need that pass skill
i just have to get at least 20k in winninngs next game, which with ff9 shouldnt be too hard.

Well, If seen a game where the Treemans ass was kicked in round 2 and know his wood is burning in the Dwarfens furnaces
If he can be taken out very quick and the woodies 2 much rely on him it can be great. I normally ignore him and dodging away, because there are more interesting targets, I love the weak AV of woodies so why blocking against AV 10?
