cage-breaking tactics

ok, I have 2 questions: I found that ability to break the cage is the crucial thing that can win the game, just because almost everybody forms a cage, even if just for a turn or two. when U score in opponents drive, it's almost the same as win.

1.) what is the usual tactic U use to break the cage?

2.) what are the skills/players (i mean the team development) you choosse to make them cage-breakers?

I know it differs in different teams, so please write the race, too.

to make it more clear, I'll write my tactic:
I play CD's.
1.) I use 2 ways to stop opponent's cage.
a) if the oponent is a slow, bashy team, then I try to slow his cage movement down by putting players one step in front of his cage + plus one behind him; and also some players on the sides to deny moving of the cage to the sides.
b) against faster teams I mark corners of the cage with blockers and put some plyers around to avoid moving of his cage to the sides. I try to force TO and then to blitz ball carrier.
2.)I'm trying to develop my blockers to stand firm, bounceback (we play 1.6 rules) to make them able to stick in front of the cage and block back the corner of the cage if he doesn't move it. the other option is to make break tackle Mino and try to ram into the cage, but in my team I rolled double for him, so I gave him Block first.

4 mummies tend to do quite well too
There was a pretty long thread about this a few weeks ago, pretty much everything was covered in there.

Just to show that I'm not a lazy bastard I looked it up:

that thread is nice, but only about "elf cage-breaking". it's a lot easier to break a cage with AG4 or higher players. there are more possibilities. But also ST3, AG3 teams want to do something against cages. teams like human, chaos, norse, or amazon. what can they do except waiting for a unlucky oponent's TO?

get some guys behind the cage, and prevent the players not in the cage to reach the cage .. just wait and see the cage grind to a standstill or get overstretched

Swarming the cage after blitzing one of the corner players works very well with ST4 players or St3 Guards if you have enough (add guard to ST4 for complete desaster). ST5+ guys with Break Tackle can march into the cage with a reasonable chance of success (4+ with ST5), add Standfirm for greater reliablity.

Otherwise, just try to keep the cage from forming or moving. Pin the players on the back so they can't use the free-up blocks for forward movement.

well, i do not play amazon or norse, but for chaos, any blitz you have will be st4, and theoretically all your players can have guard, so you should be able to get a block with a dice advantage in your favor. If you want to risk a failed wild animal roll, an st6 blitz with a minotaur and frenzy can get you into a cage quite nicely. and if you have tentacles, that ball carrier isnt dodgeing out very easily

It's probably easier to break a cage with a strength team then an agile team. If nothing else, you can stall the cage by just surrounding the forward corners. This causes the corner guards to either break up the cage as they follow up or not make any forward progression. Eventually, the coach will have to gamble on a play to score and that's where you capitalize.

hire hthark....st6 break tackle tends to crush cages. dodge into 3 tackle zones on 4+ and get a two die block on ball carrier....scary nasty.

actually, ST6 and BT makes you dodge into 3 TZ on a 3+ only :)

A rat Ogre or Kroxigar prehensil tail is awesome, use the Big Guy to Blitz into nthe cage, then watch as the ball carrier frantically tries to dodge out on a -1. Similarly give a Minotaur prehensile tail on a double.

Otherwise AG4 , leap & strip ball is a Cert ;-)

thanx guys for interesting ideas,

to sum it up, the best development of the cage breakers is:
AG4 , leap & strip ball for blitzers
break tackle for BG's

:P other ideas?
