have HE-teams become obsolete?

I have been a happy "invisible" user of this forum for some time and it has helped me a lot just reading the different threads...
now, beginning in a new league, with the rule that pro-elves are not allowed (don't look at me I didn't make the rule!!!) I am in a situation were the two options I have (as I can see them) are either to find some other passing-game minded teams or build a team with more muscle than ever seen before with the sole purpose of kicking the living crap out of the guy who came up with the idea... although I am close to doing the second of the two I am quite sure I will regret it later in the tournament, when I have had my go with him... so I am back to finding a good and fun passing team. looking around in the threads I see 10 to 15 about wood elves and dark elves for every thread about high elves. and here's my question: have high elves become obsolete? are they rarely seen in bloodbowl leagues anymore or is it just me and the fact that I might not be looking well enough because it's 2 am monday morning? I'm both curious because I "just like to know" and because I have thought of playing HE... I have played them before without succes but it was just when I started playing so it could just be my lack of routine then ( not that I'm all that great now either *S*). I have a deadline soon for submitting my team, so I can't play a lot of tryouts to find out that way, so I'm in the dilemma of either choosing something safe or putting my head on the block and finding out that it's just to darn hard to play them... I could go for DE and might do, but I like the idea of the high elves (and the "banned" pro ones - damn it!!) and I would like to hear what you guys think...

Why not go with orcs?
Hard hitting and combining a goblin with the throwers makes a fine passing game (not forgetting TTM).
High Elves:
My guess is about wood elves:
They are far superior to any team in a longer league if they survive the first few games.
The reason why so many talk about them is that so many play (and win with) them.
My guess is about dark elves:
They are very difficult to master and very expensive to buy.
They require a competent coach to run.
So many questions about how to run them.
High elves are neither as difficult as dark elves nor as good as wood elves.

What about Pro Elves? In my league there are two HE (one promoted to the follwing 'Ard League) and a WE, also in the 'Ard league (that's the 1st class one. Needless to say, I am in the Burp league).
Just for fun I tried a game with Pro Elves against a friend of mine with Lizardmen, and I found the PE very good! Especially thanks to their low cost Linemen that allowed me to start with four positional players instead of the usual 1-2 of a D/W/H Elf team..and also have very nice skills mix.

the orcs... yeah, I've thought of that and have just played a few matches with an orc team resently, and they're really fun: the high armour, the strenght of the BoB's, the blitzers and TTM is a solid combo. but... I've got an irrational urge to play it really fancy!!!! I can't really explain in another way, I would just like to play high risk passing games with fast and agile players... and, there's already three orc teams in the league, so it would also give a bit of diversity if I go with an elf team.
about the pro-elves... I would really like to play them, and I would have if they had just let me... but the're not allowed and so be it then...
(to the moderator: it just struck me: have I posted this in a wrong forum or is it ok?)

Play Highelves!
It´s a very good team and in no way outdated!
I really like it and I ended second in our local league with them.
I think they are even better than the new pro elves.
OK, Pro elves can do the same as High elves and they can do it better (side step on the blitzers and NOS on the catchers)
but they have 2 big disadvatages: The higher cost of the positionals and the lower armor.
And these 2 things combined are a real pain in the ass.
So I would allways choose a team that is a little bit weaker in the passing game but with much less player turnover.
You want to see the end of the league!

I wouldn't say High Elves are obsolete. They aren't as easy to win with as Wood Elves in a single match, but are much more likely not to be completely obliterated. Many of the comments about starting dark elf teams also apply to starting high elves... though a thrower is worth it more with HEs since they only cost 10k more than line-elves (unlike with the DEs).

thanks guys, I think you've just told me what I wanted to hear
I'll go with the high elves (the first match is tonight) and try to see if I can make them do anything good and decent ! but - I'm still curious, so if anybody has another opinion I'm all ears !
once again - thank you !

If your league is planned for a long term then I would go for DE:
With 4 Blitzers and 2 Witchelf I like them more and the HE setup of 2 DW and 4 Lionwarriors.

that should be a good starting match for U. I mean NO stalling and a lot of SPP.

If you like to pass take HE, if you like to bash (other sissy teams) take DE. From your comments it seems to me like you prefer the passing game, so IMO stick with the HE.
Sure, DE can pass too but not as good as HE because of:
1) HE have players with starting catch skill
2) HE have very fast players: lion warriors
3) HE have cheaper throwers

I've just sent the team to the moderator of our league (or whatever it is they are called - we're playing with the java client)... I went with the high elves (yes. I do like seeing 3+ passes fly over half a the field and then catch it with an easy 2+

) and ianwilliams' suggestion nr.3 for them in the tr 100 thread - think it seems like a good balance between long term playing and instant rewards -
all there's left is to wait for the kickoff ! - and to say thak you once again for the advice...

as a big offense high speed tart i would say HE are better for most stuff than DE teams. if you have a block based game - try DE as they are great. If you want a bit more flair HE are most versitile league team i would say.
In fact for the price i would offer that lion warriors are best player in the game-after a couple of skills. Wardancers are sound but too obvious targets
