How are my high elves doing?
My high elf team from Galak's MBBL2 league is now at a stage where it has the highest TR of any elf team I've run before, so I thought I'd see if any of you experts out there have any thoughts about the skills I've chosen.
The roster is at the following URL:
http://www.blood-bowl.net/MBBL2/Season2 ... letic.html
The two niggled players currently worry me - I can't really afford to be without a thrower, so I'm currently thinking that I ought to buy another Phoenix Warrior as my next purchase and think about retiring the old one as soon as the new one starts to gain skills.
This one of Galak's leagues also uses on-pitch spellcasters. Does anyone have any opinions on whether these are actually worth the money? I've not got much experience of using Wizards or On-Pitch Spellcasters.
Cheers,
Martyn

It must be the dice rolls
Nice team, you really should have enough options there to out distance the opposition. I would feel happier with a couple of pass blockers in the mix too, but I can see why you have done what you have done.
With a level 2 apothecary your concern for the niggled Pheonix warrior should vanish. It is a great comfort to have an auto heal for that possible 1 roll and still have the apo available for the match.
On pitch spell guys are great fun, and Artificer is a great random magic item giver, which on top of conjure would mean the possible 2 magic item effects in 1 game
. I play Dwarves and Dark Elves and try to take the runesmith as early as possible to cast rune of protection and stop and other spellcasting.
As for your team some pblock and leap would really add some bite to your ball winning and maybe sidestep on your guard lino. I prefer Dark Elves for the feeling of meanness
whilst I play them, High Elves feel too clean to me
, but that is probably just the bumpf.
I would imagine that the AG5 Dragon Warrior is your biggest target so some sort of defensive skill might be a good choice or pray for a double and take Jump Up for the "Expect the Unexpected" plays
all in all you have a good line-up there and if you sell them to yourself right the dice will roll in your favour IMHO. I am sure PC's can be influenced by belief.......

Looks good so far to me! Your dragons look great! I'd suggest leap and pro on the ag5 one for upcoming skills...maybe dauntless on doubles. On the other one, 2 doubles already! I'd go with tackle next on him, maybe pro after that.
I'd probably toss the niggled thrower right away, but I think I'd keep the niggled lion for a while. Just don't do anything that will get him SPP (I know you can't avoid him getting the MVP). He can be a very useful player. If he does get another skill, I'd suggest tackle to go with the shadowing he already has, passblock would be another good complement. Also I'm just noticing, isn't he a skill short? The only skill he has is shadow, and 18spp.
You're totally on the right track with the line elves, get the block/dodge flowing, having a guy with kick is great, as is a few with guard. I'd think about leader with the next doubles roll (unless of course it's that ST4 guy, or the kicker, or the guard elf!)

Martyn ...my quick thoughts.
Your development of the team is good.
Some notes on the MBBL2 for those not in the league .... Dauntless is a skill not a trait so it can be gotten on normal skill rolls ... we have Double Dauntless (both offense and defense) for the trait
Martyn with your Level 2 Apothecary ... I wouldn't worry about the Niggled players. He'll save them most the time and it will be rare that BOTH niggled player fail and that your apoth would have to choose. CJ#18 rules: A level 2 Apothecary can heal one niggled player and still be used as normal.
As for the Spellcaster .... I personally think Articifer is a VERY fun spell to cast ... who the heck knows what you are going to get. Brian has used this spell quite well on his Khemri team.
Galak
Definitely get Side Step for the ST 4 and Guard players ... and Leap on the AG 5. I hope you roll the team over, it will be interesting to see them play for another season.

Also you might want to think about a Lion Warrior with the following mix in this order:
Stiff Arm, Block, Side Step
Makes for a heck of a Lion Warrior.
Galak
For those who don't know the skill .. Stiff Arm is an Agility skill thats acts like reversed Horns ... if you are blitzed and the opponent moved at least one square before hitting you, the block is made with a -1 ST penalty.
On ST 3 Lions ... Stiff Arm is a GREAT skill.

Looks a nice side, On your #1 dragon warrior I'd go leap, dodge for his next skills, should be good at getting at the ball carriers.

Gosh, lots of replies already, and many not quite what I was expecting. Not sure what the next purchase should be: Phoenix Warrior (which fits with Wesley) or Spellcaster (which Galak would like). Yes Galak I will be rolling them over... I'm hoping that they do better next season than they have in this one.
I was intending to turn the third Lion Warrior into a blitzer-type by taking Block as his first skill, but then got a double, so chose NoS since I thought I would need to out-and-out catchers.
The suggestions of Side Step for some of the line-elves surprises me. I was intending to take Dodge next for the Guard elf (to increase his mobility enabling me to make greater use of him), and Block for the ST4 elf. (It should also be pointed out that since the MBBL2 is a PBEM league, Side Step works a bit more like Stand Firm.)
Equally I was thinking of Dodge for both the Dragon Warriors next, whereas the suggestions of Leap/Tackle respectively seem different.
On the Niggle front, I did hope the Level 2 Apoc would save the niggled guys, but then I went and suffered the Virus handicap in the current game. This has shown that I can't rely on these chaps being available just because I have an improved Apoc.
Oh yes, nearly forgot (actually this bit was added afterwards!): Pass Block. I was feeling it was time to give Pass Block to some players. It seems that Lion Warriors would be the best guys to get this skill - but when? It seems very unlikely that I could get to three or four skills (Dodge, Nerves of Steel, Pass Block, Block seems a sensible order) without failing an aging roll.
Thanks for the feedback, and any more gratefully received.
Cheers,
Martyn

In a normal league, sidestep is a pretty viable option, because it means that the guy on the line can only be hit once, instead of just being bounced down the line. But depending on how it works in your league, that may not work as well (btw i understand why an email league would want to modify that one...it'd take a seperate pair of emails everytime a sidestep guy got hit!martynq wrote:The suggestions of Side Step for some of the line-elves surprises me. I'd probably go with dodge then block on most of them, and I'd switch em with the ST4 guy...block then dodge.
