dark elf or high elf?
we got a new league coming up, consisting of an ogre team, couple of orc teams, couple 2 other elf teams,1 pro and 1 woodelf, undead, couple of humans, chaos and nurgle. iv had horrible times with darkelf the last time i played due to my witch dying the first play on a missed dodge! totally wrecked my season, but anyway high elves i did pretty good with, but how would one of those teams do agains say the dwarves or ogres? these 2 teams give me more trouble then anything.

Well they are pretty contradictory
Against Ogres you want lots of dodge. They are very unlikely to have anyone with tackle and relatively few block - so find it hard to knock down dodge players (obviously they'll roll straight pows all the time now). Also Ogres are much more dangerous as they have mighty blow anywhere.
Against Dwarves dodge is far less useful - they have so much tackle. So you need to load up on block to protected yourself.
The best advice is to play whichever team you prefer - if you are happy with them you'll probably play them better.

I agree with Doubleskulls that it's a matter of playing styles. DE peak at higher TR's then HE because of the more expensive positionals. DE are more bashy oriented with 4 blitzers while HE are more pass oriented with 4 fast catchers and cheap throwers. With HE you can stick to 1 playing style (passing game) whil with DE you'll have to adapt your tactics greatly depending on what kind of team you play against.
Personally I prefer DE because they can play any way you like once you get the right skills on the right guys. But if you like to pass the ball then HE is the team for you.
But both teams have 1 thing in common: as elves they break rather easily and if the wrong guys die early on you will always struggle to catch up.

the reason i emphasized on the ogres and dwarves, are because those are probably the best 2 coaches in the league, and i ALWAYS lose to them no matter what i do.... elves vs either of them in a bashing game always gets me killed, passing game doesnt work against the ogres because the gobbos swarm my recievers, its ok vs dwarves but if i score to quick he just grinds my team down b4 he scores in 6 or so turns....

Dark Elfes can be hard 2 Play but can also be the horror for all other Teams with far more bashing-power then all the other Elf-Teams.
For such A short Leage I would start maybe with more Blitzers then in an usual Leage maybe with 3 Blitzers, 8 Linos, 2 RR, FF 4 or really try to go with the Tournament Starting Lineup: 4 Blitzers, 7 Linos, 2 RR, FF 1
If you are Lucky and get an Apo after game 1 it can be a great Leage for you and the other Teams will suffer a lot against you.
If you want to be on the safe side take the "nomal": 2 Blitzer, 9 Linos, 2 RR, FF 7 Starting-Lineup.

i dont know about the 2 blitz, 9 lino strategy for an 8-game league. by the time you bring in the money to hire some positionals and MAYBE get them any skills, your season's over
tho since you're rolling these teams into next league, that might not matter too much for you.
i play the HE's in my current league and have had great success with them: a friend of mine started with DE, took a witch off the bat, and she was killed first game. it took him a LOT to recover from that.
as everyone said, it depends on which playing style you prefer. i find DE's to be more bashy than HE's, and against dwarves and ogres the LAST thing you want to do is be bashy. dodge away as much as possible, leave them one blitz per turn, and pass around/over them would be my vote.... in which case I'd vote HE for the finesse game against those types of crushers.
(must be nice having skilled dwarf coaches, our dwarf coach is 2-12 right now, and one of those was a "bye"

TBH I think pro elf are the only elf team that stands a chance in this particular short league. You can have a starting roster with 6 positionals, I did: 2 blitzers, 2 catcher, 2 throwers, 5 linos, 2 rerolls, FF4. The other teams IMO take too long to become really effective (both dark and high) or will get murdered by all the bashy teams in your league.

My Bulls have the "Thin Skull" trait. After every block they make, roll a D6. On a 1+ they get ko-ed and stay in the ko-box for the rest of the game.

if u ask me, starting off a dark elf team with a witch elf is suicide... i go for the 1 blitzer 10 linemen, 2 rerolls approach, and leave 10k in the bank. that way even if u get very low earnings u can still buy the apothecary after match 1. after match 2 u can normally buy a replacement lineman.
if no1 dies, then u might end up with a blitzer after game 2 (if u are extremely lucky)
high elves have got a catcher, which with 2+ for successful catches is useless for 5/6 of the time... yes they are 'relatively' faster, but no way as bashy!
also depends on ur playing style
