That depends on your style of play and your opponents.

I always give dodge as a first skill because it will keep them alive longer, but in a league with mostle dwarf players, it would be wasted (as would tackle) Then I would consider side step over strip ball, because the runners of the dwarves all have sure hands, making strip ball irrelevent.

But in a normal league, I like the combo : Dodge, Side Step, Pass Block (only take pass block if you're gonna take more of them. One PB player is never enough!)

I hope this helps, but I'm sure a lot of the others will be around soon to help you further!

I'm with Draco on a lot of this. Unless there is an obvious reason not to do so, I give Dodge as my first skill on all my DE blitzers. A further exception might be if I'm in a league with lots of Dodge (like the current one which has two teams of Wood Elves, Necros (i.e. Ghouls), Skaven, and Goblins) when I would take Tackle on one early on.

Beyond that I would wait to see what happens in terms of stat increases so that my Blitzers are varied and can act as the work-horses I expect them to be.

I agree on the first skill, dodge. On the second skill, you can start diversifying your Blitzer corps. Some should be developed as runners, with sure hands (if your league is strip-ball heavy).

I also think having at least two leaping blitzers is awesome. You can't use leap all the time, and sometimes it's actually easier to dodge especially if you have dodge too, but when leap shines, it really shines. No more cages for your opponent. Leap one guard in, leap in a strip ball blitzer, end of cage.

As everyone else said, dodge first on a normal skill upgrade. DE Blitzers gain skills rapidly. Use skill advance two and on to diversify your blitzers. Especially if this is your first blitzer.

For blitzer #3 or 4, I might be inclided to take something different if it fills a gap in my team.

Another vote more for dodge. The rest depends on your other blitzers. I like to give at least one leap, because it really irritates opposing coaches. With an Ag upgrade it's perfect for pressuring the ball-carrier early on (especially slow or weak - skink/goblin - teams at low TR), a godsend on a Blitz! kick-off and tough to defend against (requires two layers of defense).

Leap makes your players wear the "foul me! foul me!" hat though.
