Orc development in long

My friend is giving me an Orc team soon. I know these guys are monsters of hitting.

What do you suggest I start with, I was thinking
3 Blitzers~240
3 Black Orc~240
1 Thrower~70
4 Linemen~ 200
3 Rerolls~180
7 Fan Factor~70

Then buying the Apothacary off the bat, followed up by the 4th Black Orc, then the 4th Blitzer. By then a troll, and finally goblins and finish off the roster with linemen.

But how should development and game play work?

i would recommend you to start with one little goblin, sure it will be smashed, but with him you always have a threat for your opponent.

What threat is a goblin to them though? If they have a tackler he can probably catch the poor thing then its 2 dice their choice on a stunty. *Shivers* I would rather take the linemen earlier on. Also once the blitzers have guard/tackle and my team is bashy they can protect the little bugger and the troll play gobbo chuck and score in 1 turn.

Yeah, but so long as you don't play some type of dwarf in the first few games, the gobbo could be a bit of a nightmare. If you're going to go with a gobbo, do it at the outset or after you get a troll with a skill or two.

I prefer one less lineman and 1 more blitzer at the start. I never start with a gobbo. They just die easy. I do eventually get a couple of the little guys though after I'm full up on Black Orcs and a troll.

I have never found a use for more than 3 lineman.

As far as rerolls, well orcs tend not to retire very often, so eventually I end up with lots and lots of money. So I start out with 2.

My roster consists of 4 Black orcs, 4 Blitzers, 3 lineman, 1 thrower, FF 9, 2 RR's, and 10k left over.

If its really long term start with the troll and all 4 BOBs. I'd then take 4 gobbos too - because at the start a lot of teams find them difficult to pin down, and if they die so what? You are replacing them with blitzers anyway.

With 3 RR & 9 FF that leaves 150k to spend - with is I used for a thrower & blitzer. You could take 3 line orcs instead to get 12 men, or even drop a couple of points of FF for 2 line orcs & a thrower.

Having a dodgy player around can be useful, and the goblin makes buying that blitzer a little easier. Dying helps keep the TR down, so it's not that bad when a player who's easy to replace and who doesn't get much better than rookie form dies.

Well it is about 20 games long. (4 preseason for any new team that wants to enter against other rookie teams) Then after that they play 16 games and if I am lucky enough playoffs connsisting of 4 playoff games.

So about 24 games at max. But then the carry over league where you bring your team into the next league w/o any sort of penalty.

So with that in mind do ya'll think waht I said works, waht I an said works? Or something different?

It depends on your style, and a bit of the league, too... Personally I find that I field 4 BOB's, 4 blitzers, a Troll, and 1 thrower and a gobbo most of the time, with a developed team... So IF you are going for linemen, they'd better be good !
I find that having a "sure hands" blitzer (apart from mighty blow, tackle, and strip ball) really is helpfull... get it on 1-2 and it helps you getting the ball there where needed (more movement then a thrower, so getting to the ball is easier). As I use him most of the time for hand-offs, I dont bother throwing with it... then again, a quick pass is easy enough for him. He really makes a great scorer OR back-up ! espescially with strip ball.

When starting: gobbos are annoying, for the opponent. they are easy to foul with, or just stand in the way providing tackle-zones... I've seen enough 2die-blocks against them just getting them pushed away ! And, I really like their movement.

It's up to you, but if you cant decide; just take what looks good on the field (i.e. set up your team, and look at the minis).
Good luck !

I like to use 2 goblins and 4 blitzers. It really adds to the mobility of the team that other coaches won't expect. Plus those little buggers are annoying!

That's almost exactly the length of time my league runs their seasons (but the teams reset at the end of the season). Everytime I've taken orcs, using 3 black orcs, 4 blitzers, and 3 lineman, I've won the whole thing. For my league, every orc team that has started out with goblins usually just gets trashed the first few games until they max out on blitzers and black orcs. And goblins aren't very useful for pinning down your opponents nightmare players like lineman are.

That is what I would think only b/c the problem is when a bad AG player has the ball needs to score now, cant dodge away, and you have only 1 blitz while the guy has 2 TZs on him. Thats when a gobbo I would think is annoying. so you suggest 4 blitzers andc3 BOB's? That might be a good team to try out. I am looking at all possibilites that I can use before selecting a one. THen straegy helps.
Actually if someone can give a strategy on the suggested roster that would be helpful.

the best thing to do is take
4 BOB's
4 Blitzers
3 Linemen

2 Rerolls
9 FF

that way you develop the eight good players on the team the right way(bobs and blitzers), you can buy all the junk like trolls and gobos and throwers later, of course i'd buy a reroll and an apothocary right off, then invest in those frivolous things.

As far as strategy's go, I wouldn't put any Black Orcs on the LOS on defense. Almost always, you're opponent will find a way to knock them down and with black orcs being slow and on the ground it kinda sucks. I usually put one Black orc in the wide zones on the outside and a blitzer right next to them. With the roster you have, I'd put a black orc in the middle behind the LOS to go wherever needed and use the blitzer and lineman to smack whatever comes through. And of course, us the thrower to run ahead and scoop up the ball.

On offense, I'd use the basic orc strategy of hit everything you can and march down the field, but don't get in a rush to score and leave a blitzer hanging out in the wind.
