Diving Tackle

This is a lovely skill, and can be absolutely terrifying in the right situation. Has anyone got any experience in using it extensively? It could be incredibly useful on strong players, but do people think it is worth a doubles roll? I would rank it very highly for a Mummy, for example, but is it better than Stand Firm?

tbh for strong players like mummies I would think of it as a waste of a double, you can take better skills and you're exposing yourself to fouling, I'd rather give it to the supporting players. For example in a Khemri team having a diving tackle/tackle skeleton standing in between your guarding mummies is pretty terrifying for elf teams. They can't risk the dodge and blocking him out will be hard because of the guarding mummies and if they do make a succesfull block they're still standing next to a mummy next turn (unless they blitz).

Most of the time you will cause a turnover for the opposition so they wont have a chance to foul before you stand back up and it will certainly make people think twice before trying to dodge away if they have other things to go that turn. You only have to use the skill after you've seen the dice so its pretty safe. If you know they have a RR and you chose to use it on the first attempt then you take a risk I suppose.
I have two Pro-elf blitzers with Block, Side step, Dodge, Diving tackle and Tackle and and they are absolute gems! Best BB players Ive ever had, you just cant get away from them. Brilliant for marking a ball carrier. Diving tackle is a great skill IMO.

Amazon catchers with block, dodge, sidestep and diving tackle. Anything with that combo of skills really, is a a turnover beast.
Depends what your league is like for a DT mummy. If its an elf league then go ahead, but if you're playing most bashers, it probably isnt too good.
To some extent DT has to be combined with tackle too. 4+ rerollable is still 75% successs for an opponent with ag4 but the odds are less reliable with ag3.

As Underdog mentioned, it is impossible to become a target for fouling by using DT. You only use the skill when forcing a turnover, and so it then becomes your turn, and you can stand the DT-er up again!

But it is totally true that DT is wasted against bash teams, so probably 50% of opponents.
Never really though about the DT, Side Step combo on a blodger. That would be awesome.

Eh, that's not correct.
If the opposing player has Dodge, or uses a re-roll, then they can still get away, leaving you on the floor.

Oh yeah!

So an AG 3 players rolls a "3", then the DT player declares he will use DT. The AG 3 player then uses a reroll to roll a 5, and so makes the dodge. But then the DT player must still go prone. Is that right?

Yep, once he's declared he's used it to put the -2 on the Dodge, he goes prone.

Which is why you want to combine it with tackle.
Let's face it, you're practically only going to be hunting players with dodge with him anyway.

DT can be good in two situtations. On a blitzer like the Pro Elf one, that easily takes out the gutter runners, and the annoyances of men running around. Also it helps on linemen and such agaist the tough skinks that go on the line occassionaly, or elven players. This way you just bash them tackle them if they get up to run DT them.

DT on a mummy is pure madness... it has MA3 and is your only source of power in an UD team, or a corner of your play in a Khemri team, you don't want to use DT with it.
however, i did take DT on long beards, it's usually a third choice for catchers (first two being block and sidestep) and a fourth skill for the linelves lucky enough to survive this far. i think it is essential to combine it to sidestep for players with AG access. it is also a good doubles on linemen, even though i tend to prefer guard, but that's purely personal taste.

I have VERY extencive experiance of using this Diving Tackle with my Flings
I am the Terror of my League with no one being able to make a Dodge roll against me I mean thats what comes when you have a team of Flings who ALL have Diving Tackle and two who have also got Tackle The Amazons and Goblins in my League HATE me

well... the good thing with flings is tat you're supposed to easily push them out of the way ^^

The only problem with flings would be if two of the little bastards were on your player who wanted to run in for a TD blitz one out of the way but the otehr is still on you.
