Elf development- block or dodge

Post by stormmaster1 »

For elf teams which is more useful on linemen as a first skill- block or dodge. At the moment i take block more because i regularly play against dwarves and at higher TRs more teams get loads of tackle, but i just got an ass whooping by some amazons who dodged around to get 2 dice blocks so easily, where i burned rerolls trying the same.

Usually I take both. The first Lineman got Block, the second Dodge, the third Block, etc...

Actually I think that it's better to have different skills rather than the same ones.

Right. I generally do the same. Balance out my Block and Dodge first skill selections.

Although i do think i tend towards dodge first, mainly to ensure longevity of players in a new team. The way i figure, a lot of teams don't start with block players, or atleast not many block players and even fewer start with tackle... so having dodge helps keep those linemen around long enough to get a 2nd skill.

Plus, as elves, especially the lower AV elves, i'm more inclined to dodge away from a TZ if i can't get a 2 die block, then to stand my ground and take the hit.

With a Elf team & high Agility I think they get more from Dodge than Block especially as their strength comes from mobility not aggression.

Depends on your set up. If you place three elves on the line dodge is good. If you set up to hit then a mix of both. But early on teams strive for skill 1 to get block not 2 on the same player for both block/tackle.

This game is about hitting, and scoring, and hitting so you can score. I almost always take Block first. Maybe one or two with dodge, but mostly block. Trust me, those linelves will getting thier second skill soon enough that they won't be long without dodge as well.

1st line elf to skill takes kick. Its just too good a skill for the rest of the team to ignore.

2nd takes Dirty Player, but that's only if you are a mad power gamer.

3rd-5th take block. The rest tend to take dodge as the first skill (since it helps them skill up quicker as they are more likely to score TDs etc).

In general I try to develop a mix of Block, Dodge, Sidestep (handy on LOS guys and the wings), Tackle and other "basic" skills. Don't make them all develop the same way.

3 is Block, then Kick, then 2 Dodge, after that get a good mix.
Try to get all your Linos at least one skill, mix around if possible, you will need some Block/Dodge, Block Tackle.
Block is always a litte bit more important then Dodge, because with AG 4 is good enough most of the Time for you Dodges ;)

with my elves, i took a differwnt approach with specialising the linemen

2 have diving tackle, and will get tackle next, to mash runners
1 kicker, probably get block next
1 with guard, to lend support to the LoS where needed
3 unskilled - the aforementioned LoS
2 with ag+1...i think im making these guys into cage-breakers.

so for me, ive not gone down the general blodge route, mostly due to my knack for rolling agility rolls, and also cos i like to have a couple of surprises up m sleeve!

Well, of course, if you roll doubles and/or stat increases, your options change. I had 2 MA7 Guard lino's (had being the operative word :(), but I wouldn't recommend that as a development path.

I prefer the same one. Kicker for obvious reasons, then three blocks for the los, then a dodger for offence, and block for defence and so forth...

Some of them will become block/tacklers, most of them blodgers.
You might want to add some dirty players too, if you like fouling.
