Defense with Elves vs Skaven

Post by skatingtortoise »

my local league is dominated by a very good skaven player, and so far if lost 1 and won 1 against him (the first to do so since it started 3 years ago)

this is the first year ive used pro elves, and after some luck not getting too many injuries, ive got a very successful team.

my only problem is how to defend aginst his one-turners when it comes to the inevitable playoffs. my his tactic is to stick his rat ogre, storm vermin, and gutter runner all on one side surrounded by linemen, mash my front line, open a hole between LOS and wide players, and run through with GR.

my defense team usually consists of 3 linefodder, 2 blitzers with block/s-step/J-Up/dodge (and one has +1ST), 2 linemen with diving tackle and tackle, 1 kicker with block, 1 catcher with AG5 and passblock, and one with dodge/Jump up, and an AG5 lineman.

usually, my blitzers and tacklers are wide, with tacklers closer to middle, catchers on end of LOS and 1 square back, and the kicker and AG elf deep

is there a more efficient way to defend against a OTW with these players? usually i try to get the passblocker in an intercepting position, and force the GR to dodge away from my Tacklers, but he always manages to get past.

so in summary, how should i set these players up to maximise chances of nerfing OTW?

let him score in one turn early in the game, who cares, and make sure you get the last turn score instead of him by keeping your eye on the clock, if he gets a chance at a last turn score just set all your guys 2 squares from the endzone so he can't blitz a hole, he will have to dodge 3 times and go for it 3 times, pray he fails, he won't  if the OTS ever falls over foul the living sh!t out of it.

defense
______endzone_
______________
_X_x-x-x-x-x_X_

and 3 on the line, plus if you gave an 11th man still you can put him on one of the sideline spots behind one of the big X'sand move a small x over one square to keep a legal defense. , or put the pass blocker somewhere near the los and hope you can TZ the gutter runner up for his catch roll, big X's should have tackle/diving tackle if possible.

yeah must I dont care too much. With a rat ogre he can proably one turn score with just two chain-pushes with any gutter runner. Same tactic as any other ag team - just beat them down and make them roll lots of dice.
