My Dwarfs against an ugly bunch of Chaos!

Post by The_Wicked »

Hello out there Dwarven-Players!

I need some help in a tournament Match against a Chaos Team. I play Dwarfs and both Teams have played just 6 or 7 Matches...

The Chaos Team won the last cup and smashed me into the ground... No grinding game worked and his fast beastman (3 guys with MA 7) really suck...

Some clues for me how to beat 'em?

Would be really happy if you help me!

Argh. Tough one. The only thing I can suggest is that you make sure you plan your blocks so that you get the best advantage of them. With all the Block you have, and hopefully the couple of players with Guard you've built this should be possible. Don't follow up if its not neccessary...make him come to you. DOn't fear one dice blocks against guys without Block: you have a 1 in 6 chance of not doing SOMETHING useful.

The problem you face is that he will be playing the exact same tactics. Playing Bashy against Bashy is not easy to really advise on, you just have to know how to exploit the situations you find yourself in during the game.

Be bold. Fortune favours the brave.

More details in hope of more help...? ;-)

Post by The_Wicked »

Thanks for the fast answer...

Ok. I try again with more information

Let's get precise:

No guarding players on my side... the only lineman that got a level up got AG + 1, but i got a blitzer with Dodge/Strip Ball (he aged on level 1 and got AV - 1) and a blitzer with Mighty Blow, my only runner got pass

On the other side is a minotaur (we called him "glassbone" ;-)) with an AV - 1 and Block, a chaos warrior with movement -1 and some block-beastmen (don't forget the 3 with MA 7)

Any clues or ideas?

Setting the pace

Post by gallowin »

Last season I had the same game for a playoffs except his minotaur had Claw, Block etc & 14 casualties on the season. I hate goat-boy.

I hit his guys hard and kept as many on the ground as possible. Let your Blitzers & Slayers do the critical hitting. Since you only have one runner you might keep him back as a safety & parallel the ball carrier.

I lost because he Lightning bolted my runner as I was about to score and then fouled him into the KO box for the game. 2nd half I over-committed to one side and he out ran me as my guys were tied up in TZ. Losing the runner was the turning point in the game.

Some thoughts:

Try to keep the game as tight as possible. If you're running, stick to the loose cage. If he's running, funnel his players towards the sideline where you can more easily encircle players and restrict his ability to use ST4 blitzes to break out.

Once you tighten up the game his high move will be less use and your higher armour and greater block distribution will be the determining factor.

Coaches who are faced with a blunted drive will usually either try to roll out or fight their way through. Either of these is good for you. Keep a good flanking force to ensure he can't easily roll out and force him to bring players forward to blitz you. Your armour and block skill should protect you. In your turn hit away any players standing nearby and reset your defence away from his players. Frenzy loose players off the pitch at every possible opportunity. Even if they are only stunned you're gaining numerical advantage that will dig him further into his hole.

The odds are in your favour if you can get the game to this tempo.

When you're driving remember that he has more strength than you on the blitz so don't just rely on the cage (especially since you lack guard). You'll need flanking players to ensure there's a nice net of tacklezones to keep him from getting too many assists near the ball. Keep frenzying players off the side to maintain the numerical advantage.

The key here is to set the pace of the game to emphasise your strengths. Don't mistake wading in and hitting all his players for a "grinding game" You want the game slow and you always want him to bring blocks to you. Don't run out looking for casualties - make the holes, reform, give yourself space, and let him make the mistakes.

Set-Up

Post by The_Wicked »

Hello again!

The day of the game is tomorrow and i'm getting a bit nervous at this moment.

Maybe you can help a bit with my setup against the chaos team. I'm thinking for days about a good, defensive setup.

My team contains 7 Longbeards, 2 Slayers, 2 Blitzers, 1 Runner and one Ogre...

Any clues? :smoking:

My suggestion use the longbeard off pitch as the extra guy on defense or offense. If u knock the ball loose your gonna want that runner. As for set up, i would say the los should have longbeards and the ogre, keep the slayer somewhere a few squares back. On Defense just have 2 longbeards and the ogre on los all others back from the line. Once the other coach has commited his players, try to engage them all, with block and your av, keeping down the beastmen blitzes helps. On offense keep most everyone on the los to start, except for 1 or 2 longbeards for back of the net/cage and the runner to get the ball.

All good advice...I'll add one thing.
Use that AG 3 longbeard! Longbeards all look the same to non dwarf coaches. Use him as blocker for the ball carrier, if you get close to the endzone and your opponent is blocking your entry you might be able to dump it off to the LB for a Longbeard Sneak.

Bad Luck!

Post by The_Wicked »

Hey Guys!

Yesterday we played a game called Skull-Bowl, ahem, I wanted to say Blood Bowl. Really everything went wrong and one turnover followed the one before...

It's not that all your tactics didn't work (no, there where some great clues which would have been supposed to work and will work in the future with some more luck) but yesterday an absolute f***** up game took place.

I lost 1:0, 2:1 Casualities for Chaos, one Longbeard got a level up and my bad luck striked again: One more Longbeard with AG + 1 and NO GUARD!!! :puke:

Next Match is versus Amazons...

They have 3 times Guard, but I think I can make it... (if god wants so...)

Thanks for your support. :smoking:

AG 3 dwarves

Post by Glorian Underhill »

Ag 3 dwarfs are the Hell !

If your dwarf Longbeards look like mine, you are the only one who can seperate them. But for best choice make small paintdots on their base, but only to your side !
Don´t tell the other coach what thei mean.

Hey, he does his job and you yours.

With these guys you can even dodge, pass, CATCH !
And with only one Runner you really need those guys.

Hi!

Yes, i thought about it... I guess AG 3 Longbeards really bring some opportunities to a dwarven team. At this time, it's hard to win with 'em, cause I really depend on getting some Guards... but maybe later this improvement will pay out...

I game against the amazon-team was a draw. Even in casualities... that sucks...

But, hey, we are the dwarves... WE WILL STRIKE AGAIN!
