Need help with a tournament Skaven team

Post by JeffOrt »

I am entering a tournament in two weeks where each starting team gets 1200K to play with, and all players are revived after each round. I want to play Skaven, and I'm wondering what starting team anyone could help me think of to lead my beloved squeakers to victory. Also, we'll be using LRB 1.10 rules, so I have to get studying. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Well, with that sort of money you should get all yor positionals, and a Rat Ogre if you want to have one.
But a bit more info on the tourney rules would be helpful, such as are Stars, Apo's and/or Wizards allowed.

??? The LRB is on version 4.0. Do you mean the Vault/Perpetual Blood Bowl League rules, the experimental rules mainly being hashed out on the Specialist games forums?

What they're planning is to revive all players at the end of each round, so I feel that would negate the need for an Apothacary. They're also planning to grant skills after each round as well, and possibly a trait. As far as I know, wizards, freebooters and all others will be as normal. Also, from what they're saying, they want to use the experimental 1.10 rules. I would prefer LB 4.0 myself since they're official and basically balanced, but that's not my say. I'm going to try to verify this though. It seems odd to base any kind of tourney on experimental rules. I'm thinking I want to get all my positions filed, and spend the rest on re-rolls. Skaven don't really have stars I'd like to waste the freeboot money on. Thanks for the quick response!

make sure to check out the pbbl 1.10 rules...GR's now cost 90k I think. and Rat Ogres are more expensive.

http://www.blood-bowl.net/LRB_PBBL/PBBL/PBBL_1.10.pdf

Take an apothecary...you can use their abilit to return an injured player to the reserves, so you can use him next drive...and since all injuries are healed at the end of the game..you won't lose the player. You are playing skaven, you will lose players during the game..having a way to get one back is a good thing and very well worth 50k. If inducements are allowed, I'd get a chirurgeon also..he can do the same thing..return a hurt player to the reserves. Only 50k normally..check with the tournament rules to be sure tho...if I was running it, I'd at least triple the cost of most inducements (if I allowed them at all)

hmm. what roster..I'd probably go with:
2xblitzer (formally storm vermin) 90k each, 180k
4xRunners (formally gutter runners) 90k each, 360k
1xthrower 70k
1xRat Ogre 160k
4xLinemen 50k each, 200k
3xRR's 60k each, 180k
1xapothecary 50k

(if allowed, replace one lineman with a chirurgeon)

that's 12 players and the ablity to get a Rat Ogre or Runner back if they are hurt (or 11 players and the ablity to get 2 players back)

another possiblity is to not take the rat ogre and get 3 more lineman (and either a FF, a CL or an AC)

Apoth in vault no longer returns players on the pitch, it only modifies the injury. So an apoth is indeed completely useless in this setting.

Once per a match, an Apothecary may attempt to cure a player
who has suffered a Casualty in one of two ways.
...
2) The Apothecary returns the player to Reserves. This ability
can be used at any time after the injury as long as an opposing
Necromancer has not already turned the player into a Zombie
(see below). The Apothecary has not actually healed the injury
though and the injury will be reinstated on the player at the end
of the game. If this player suffers another roll from the Casualty
table after returning to the game, apply both results. The player
will only ever miss one match as a result of his injuries, even if
he suffers two results with this effect.
The apoc does have a use in this style of tournament play. In fact, this ability is pretty good if all players come back fresh for each new round.

Ok... we checked with the tourney staff, and they're "pretty sure" they're running LRB 4.0... So I guess I'll make two sets of teams, one for LRB 4.0, and one for 1.10 because they said they might run that instead. Thanks everyone for all the advice!

1 ability of the apoth leaves the player BH worthless, I agree.
the second ability (that of the churgion) -on teh apoth does work to put a player in the reserves (back on pitch next drive) - to suffer the result anyway after the match -when he'll be revived. SO very much worth it I think.

I'd rather pay 50k on putting an GR or RO back on the pitch than replacing him with the skaven linerat bought with the 50k as well.

Never too late to read words of advice. I wasn't able to reda it before the tourney, where I went 1-1-1. I won 4-1 against a team of goblins painted to look like the smurfs, I got clobbered by a team of norse (it got to the point that I only had 5 players on the pitch.) 3-0, in which almost every die roll went against me, and I fought back to a 2-2 draw with amazons. I did see some mistakes I made (bought too many re-rolls and not enough reserve players for one). But it was a great learning experience, and a lot of fun for a new coach. Thanks everyone for the advice, and I'll make sure to read that playbook so I can go get 'em next time. Cheers!
